Q+A on Authentic Beauty with the TYME Team

Q: What does authentic beauty mean to you?
A: I believe Authentic Beauty radiates from the inside out. I live in a city where the women all look the same, and botox and filler are more common than cacti. The best accessory is my smile and my vibe. I am tuning into what feels true to my individual, unique self. "She's a 7, but her Aura makes her a 10."
Q: How do you put that into practice every day?
A: Practicing mindful self-awareness, I am able to tune into how my body feels and what it needs. As well as listening to my thoughts and letting go of what no longer serves me. With this practice, what feels authentic to me changes on the daily. Some days yoga pants, tinted moisturizer, and a baseball cap feel authentic. Other days I feel like dressing to the nines and putting on a full face of makeup with false eyelashes, blush, and a bold lipstick. In the end, I feel and look my best when I'm genuinely happy, and that's when I'm staying true to my most unique, authentic self.
Q: How does your favorite TYME product support your authentic beauty journey?
A: The entire TYME product line has changed my hair game. Although, TYMELESS Repair and Shine spray is my favorite. I have a TON of thin blonde hair, medium length. As a finishing spray, TYMELESS accentuates the deceiving amount of hair I have, repairs damage from processing, leaves my hair looking silky, voluminous, and smelling absolutely incredible.

Q: What does authentic beauty mean to you?
A: We are so used to seeing unattainable beauty ideals every day in magazines, advertisements, and television, so it is easy to develop a skewed view of what beauty is supposed to look like. Authentic beauty defies societal beauty standards and invites you to be exactly who you are, where you are, right now.
Q: How do you put that into practice every day?
A: It can be challenging to be true to yourself with so many outside influences. I try to put authentic beauty into practice every day by being kind to myself and giving myself some grace when I start to feel down or compare myself to others. Also, if I feel negative thoughts about myself, I try to replace them with something I like about myself.
Q: How does your favorite TYME product support your authentic beauty journey?
A: Uplift Band's affirmations are really helpful for me. Positive self-talk does so much for my mindset and boosts my self-esteem. Sometimes a reminder that you're enough just the way you are can go a long way. I also love the TYME Iron Pro's ability to enhance my natural waves, and on days when my natural texture just isn't cutting it, I can achieve a totally different look. Good hair can really set the tone for the rest of your day.

Q: What does authentic beauty mean to you?
A: I used to think Authentic Beauty was going against the grain, but I have realized that it's more about NOT putting yourself in a box or a uniform. To me, authentic Beauty is more about being the most comfortable version of yourself, so every aspect of your personality has the space to be present, not blocked by worry.
Q: How do you put that into practice every day?
A: I've paired down my routines to only the necessities. That way, when I feel rushed, I still feel good, and when I have extra time, I can play and add an extra dash of fun!
Q: How does your favorite TYME product support your authentic beauty journey?
A: The Blowbrush and consistently blow drying my hair has been such a game-changer for me. Something about feeling "put together" on day one of your wash cycle that sort of transforms and takes the pressure off the rest of it. I get to just show up for the rest of the days without having to get ready for them.

Q: What does authentic beauty mean to you?
A: I think authentic beauty can mean many things, but ultimately it means expressing yourself in a way that feels true to you. I think we often hear "authentic beauty" and think that it inherently means not following trends or not caring what others are doing with their beauty routine. That doesn't have to be true. If you are excited about a new trend like colorful eyeliner or bringing back the 70's hairstyles, do it! But if you feel most true to yourself by not wearing any makeup at all, do that. Authentically show up however you feel like your most beautiful self.
Q: How do you put that into practice every day?
A: Personally, I love playing with trends and putting time into my outfit or hair SOMETIMES. But the majority of the time, I want to put as little thought into my appearance as necessary while still looking put together. I love waking up and knowing that my hair is going to still look good after I styled it 4 days ago, knowing that that gives me the freedom to do a cute hairstyle if I decide to that day.
Q: How does your favorite TYME product support your authentic beauty journey?
A: It's really about the whole system for me. It starts in the shower; with Power Couple, I know my hair will look fresh for at least a week. The BlowBrush has been my weapon of choice lately. I've mastered a 5-minute blowout on air-dried hair that looks great for at least 3 days without touchups. On day 4, I'll bust out the TYME Ironand rock curls until day 7! The freedom I get from the line working cohesively together allows me to have the time to get creative with my styles.

Q: What does authentic beauty mean to you?
A: It is about truly FEELING beautiful and not just striving to LOOK beautiful based on what I've been told "beautiful" is. When my daughter was about 1 and started to enjoy looking at herself in a mirror, I quickly noticed how joyfully and pure her reaction to herself was. She is looking in the mirror without 25+ years of unrealistic expectations that have been fed to her from the beauty industry like I have. I can so clearly see how damaging that has been for me and my confidence and inner voice throughout my whole life.
Q: How do you put that into practice every day?
A: I think the biggest thing that has helped me was questioning every step in my routine. Does this product/outcome actually make me FEEL authentically like myself, or does it make me feel worse about myself without it? Through that, I've found that I truly feel my best with less. I also have a list of affirmations that I've told my daughter since she was a few months old, and I started telling myself them and have noticed how much that has helped me unlearn some of the negative thoughts I have been telling myself for years as I get ready in the morning.
Q: How does your favorite TYME product support your authentic beauty journey?
A: My fav TYME product is Upstaged because it's a one-stop shop for me, no matter what look. I love that I can use it as a heat protectant and style extender if I want to curl and style my hair.... but I can also use it on damp hair and use it to help rock my natural curls for more carefree days. It makes my hair feel like REAL hair, not unrealistically slippery, plastic-y, and weighed down like I thought it was supposed to look like because of TV commercials.

Q: What does authentic beauty mean to you?
A: Authentic beauty means not looking for anyone else's opinion to see what beauty means. It means knowing what is true to you in a way where you are comfortable enough to see beauty through your own lens.
Q: How do you put that into practice every day?
A: I used to see what was being put out as beautiful or trendy and tried to apply those things in my life. I always had it in the back of my mind that just because Madonna did something that was cool didn't make it right for me. At the time, I was referring to the pointy bras she made famous, so in the back of my mind, I knew I didn't want to follow a trend just because it was a trend, but many times I wouldn't like something in the beginning and would convert just because it was everywhere. Now I've brought it to the forefront of my mind and really look at every instance to see how each moment contains beauty. Even in the places you least expect it and see what truly resonates with me.
Q: How does your favorite TYME product support your authentic beauty journey?
A: I think they all work to support that idea, but if I had to choose one, it's the Power Couple. The amount of time I spend on my hair in a month has been reduced by about 50 hours a month. (Imagine I used to need 50 hours more a month to do my hair before our shampoo and conditioner!) Every one of our products gives me back my time, and that is one of the best gifts I could hope to have with busy days. I used to spend hours on my hair, but now because our products allow me to spend a lot less time on my hair, I get to be present and see the simple, beautiful moments I'm surrounded by every day.

TYME's Dedication To Authentic Beauty
Our company’s focus is 50% on creating and finding more accessible solutions for your everyday and 50% on re-enforcing authentic beauty. While we’re positive our hair care line, revolutionary heat tools, and luxurious brushes are simple, effective tools, we have not been communicating our approach to real, authentic beauty quite enough.
We want to make sure you’re honoring the little girl who used to love looking in the mirror. The little girl that looked at the bathroom as a playground with makeup and hair tools as an opportunity to explore. The little girl that loved the way she looked.
You deserved it then and you definitely deserve it now.
For decades, we’ve all been sold the idea that silky smooth hair is the definition of beauty. We’re not buying in. Hair is as unique as the head it grows from. Hair looks different on everyone, and the results of products and tools look different, too. We are dedicated to showing our audience those results. We encourage you to join us on this journey to bringing a new standard of beauty to light.
#1 - We let true beauty shine.
Every TYME-produced video and image doesn’t get retouched. We don’t spend time photoshopping stray hairs and adding volume to hair that doesn’t exist. We’re showing you real people and how our products react with their hair.
#2 - We’re showing REAL results.
We’ve built a line of products designed to give you the number one key to gorgeous hair no matter your hair type…hydration. Hydrated hair is healthier, holds heat-treated styles better, and always looks shiny.
While we have a select few models who we regularly work with that we consider “TYME Iron Experts,” the rest have either been taught on-site or have participated in our HangTYME sessions, which are publicly available to everyone. We will always show you their real results.
#3 - We’re finding solutions, not adding more to your to-do list.
Trending aesthetics and hairstyles are constantly changing. Instead of adding a new tool to our catalog with every new trend, we’re showing you how to create those new looks with the tools you already have.
#4 - We’re keeping the conversation going.
Through our social channels and private Facebook group, Beauty Redefined, we are constantly engaging with our followers to not only make sure we’re best serving you, but to also share the incredible shift that happens when you’re able to stop worrying about what you look like and get to start focusing on how you feel.
Join us on this journey to authentic beauty and don’t buy into unrealistic beauty standards just because they’ve been sold to you.
How Opportunity and Trust brought TYME CEO, Jacynda Smith's Small, Woman-Owned Business To The Next Level
Read Time: 2 min 28 sec
Like most iconic American companies, TYME started in a garage with some broken supplies. Luckily TYME CEO, Jacynda Smith had a few things going for her: a cousin with an engineering background and a common problem with a resolution. The common problem? Women who couldn't (and some of us are still learning) replicate the styles they were getting at the salon. Jacynda's cosmetology background, paired with the know-how of an engineer, brought on an excellent solution to this problem: the TYME Iron. Little did she know, Jacynda would be faced with a plethora of other challenges, too. What should the TYME Iron look like? Who are we selling the iron to? How do we teach women to use this product? And more profound lessons like "Am I good enough to lead a company?"These questions lead to Jacynda adopting many invaluable skills, but one essential one: decision-making. "There are so many lessons that come with owning a business, like understanding your role of responsibility," Jacynda said. "Responsibility is just the ABILITY to RESPOND. When a moment to make a decision presents itself, it's your job to find a response. No one else will decide for you. There is no authority! Sometimes decisions require a lot of thought, and sometimes a decision can happen right at the moment. Find your various decision-making processes and respond."Jacynda's ability to respond brought the company through many evolutions, but a few decisions made throughout the company's nine-year existence have made all the difference. Here are Jacynda's top lessons in leveling up this small, midwestern business. #1 - Prioritize Customer Service "No one's business would be what it is without the people connecting with it. We knew this from the start, and creating a heat tool unlike any other on the market would make this even more challenging. So we got to work. From the beginning, TYME has shared endless educational videos teaching women how to use the TYME Iron to achieve the styles they love successfully. When that wasn't enough, we implemented HangTYME sessions to remedy the disconnect in education. This solution led to a wet line - helping women truly care for their hair - even more educational content and new tools to help them achieve their desired looks."#2 - Bend the Rules"Your marketing can be out of the box. It's ok if it doesn't work with some, it will resonate with others, and they will like your business even more for it. The same goes for how you manage your team. We understand the realness of life. Your work hours don't have to be traditional work hours. Not everyone loves working or can work a 9-5, five days a week. Think about creating an environment where people can work when they can't sleep at night and want to take advantage of the opportunity to be productive, or if they're a morning person, they can get started on their day earlier. You'll quickly find that when your team can work in an inspired moment instead of a required moment, they can be more productive in less time."#3 - Trust your Team "It is vital to understand that people love feeling empowered and thrive in an environment that nurtures their growth (except when they aren't ready or right for your team, and that's ok). When you give a member of your team the ability to own their role and explore their duties in a way that inspires them, their work and success will most likely exceed expectations. You will both make mistakes (which is just a Mis Take). You can look at them as failures or opportunities to learn, and you can pivot when you realize where you missed."

An Inspiring Mother's Day Message from CEO Jacynda Smith
Read Time: 3 min 25 sec
Congratulations! You have made it through this epic change humanity is experiencing, all while maintaining a home...and a family...and yourself! It is both profound and confounding at the same time. I went into the year thinking 2020, “What an amazing year! A year that will be full of perfect 20/20 vision and perfect hindsight.” … Although it didn’t look anything like I was expecting - especially as a mother - it brought on an amazing transformation.
There have been so many descriptions about what was coming to transform the Earth and humanity. But I don’t think anyone knew it would come in this form. Something that stopped everyone from their normal routine and gave us a whole new lens through which to view the world through.
Have there been challenging moments?
Absolutely!
Will there be more challenges?
Absolutely!
We’ve learned to live in a whole new way and cleaned out our closets...both physically and emotionally. Now it’s tyme to bring this new you back into the world to incorporate who you have grown into and reintroduce yourself. If you don’t feel like this is the journey you are on yet. I would love to pass on some of the daily practices I personally implemented. These practices have made the journey of life, and the past year especially, feel more empowered, enriched, and enjoyable.
Meditation
Learning new perspectives and unlearning old ones
Reading and growing my knowledge
Speaking the mantras below into existence.
“I Deserve to Prioritize Myself”
Most moms can admit that we get lost in “doing.” Doing things for our children, for our partners, for our in-laws, or the neighbor. It’s a part of our nature to help, trust me, I get it! Some of us get lost in the opportunity to help and it turns into what feels like an obligation to help. In that obligation, we lose our focus on who we are and what we want. If you’re always putting the needs of others over your own, it’s nearly impossible to be the best version of you, you can be.
So...prioritize yourself! Nurture yourself. Nurture your mind. Nurture your spirit. Nurture your body. Try to make time for yourself every single day. Even if it’s just five minutes a day, at LEAST it’s five minutes that day to just center yourself. You deserve it.
And don’t forget that by prioritizing yourself, you’re setting an incredible example for your children! They should learn how to prioritize their own needs and wants, and who better to set that example than the wonder woman who cares for them - and herself - on a daily basis.
“Follow My Excitement”
Breaking down our mold of prioritization gives us space to follow our excitement.
I love using this analogy with people! Think about a decision you have coming up or even just your plans for Friday night. You can get dressed up and go out, or you can stay at home in your sweats and read a book. Now grab a coin. Heads you’re going out. Tails you’re staying in. In that split second before the coin lands, you probably already know what it is you want to do. When that coin lands, you’re either really excited or slightly disappointed, right?
Stop letting yourself be slightly disappointed! Go with the option that brings you more excitement. Adopting this way of making decisions in your life truly unlocks possibilities. You stop sweating the small stuff. You stop doing things out of obligation. You start prioritizing joy and excitement.
Imagine what that can do for your parenting style?! Parents continuously put themselves and subsequently our children in the role to follow the status quo. Let your kids live in their excitement and not just follow the norms of society. Those expectations are so tough for kids to navigate and engrains a self-conscious mindset that prevents them from pursuing their passion.
I think the world needs a bit more of that. People who lead a life full of pursuing their excitement.
“I Am Enough”
It’s a practice.
From a young age, we are constantly pushed into categories and stereotypes. When you search for the core of why a kid is hard on themselves in sports or school, or even why people insult themselves or they feel like they don’t look good in pictures… it all stems from that core feeling that you don’t feel like you’re good enough for something. All of us have those beliefs. That’s where doubt and fear and judgment start to come in. But what some people don’t recognize is when you let those feelings win, and you start judging yourself, it spills out. It turns into doubt and fear and judgment of other people.
None of that is who we truly are.
You are born enough in this world and you are worthy of everything in this world. When you start saying that to yourself and honing in on that fact...it changes your world.
Don’t leave these mantras in this blog. Take them with you. Start practicing them.
And remember…
The best parent version of you stems from the actual best version of you.
Get To Know Our CEO, Jacynda Smith
The entrepreneur mindset doesn’t come easy to all, but for Jacynda Smith it came as naturally as braiding hair. As a little girl in Colorado Springs, CO, Jacynda had a knack for making things beautiful. This quickly turned into her first entrepreneurial business when she started selling bracelets to her friends in fourth grade.
That mindset traveled with her across the world while she was living in Finland, creating a bag company in Toronto, CA, and traveling with her husband who was a professional hockey player, but her current enterprise developed in a little town meant to be a pit stop along the way.
In the heart of the Midwest sits the tiny little river town of Bellevue, IA where Jacynda found the time to mingle her passion for bringing beauty into the everyday lives of women and business. Her experiences in Iowa helped foster the original design for the multi-purpose tool we can’t stop drooling over, the TYME Iron. We had the opportunity to sit down with Jacynda, TYME CEO, to revisit that journey and how it has evolved since 2014.
Q: How did you end up in Bellevue?
J: When Dan (my husband) got injured playing hockey, his career was over. It was also the 2008 housing crisis so he couldn’t find work. My mom said, “Why don’t you go live in Iowa where it will be affordable and you’ll have a sitter for your kids while you go to hair school.” I was like “What are you crazy?” ...and then I moved here. A year later she said: “When are you coming back to Colorado?” ...and I said, “What are you crazy? I’m not leaving here.” In both instances she wasn’t crazy.
Q: You started your journey in the beauty industry as a hairstylist. What influenced you to develop the TYME Iron?
J: The beauty industry - for me - is very complex because I believe that beauty comes from inside. I really feel a beauty journey starts way further back for me. Hair was my first real venture into it, but I appreciate beauty from everywhere and every angle. I feel like I’ve always been an admirer of beauty in all forms, whether it’s houses and confidence in people or a kind smile. I appreciate beauty everywhere. I think my first experience was “How do I help people bring that into their beauty routine?” It was the struggle of watching everybody try to curl or try to recreate. People in the salon would always ask how to look a certain way. So I'm trying to teach them how to do that and they would struggle so hard to get the looks. They were trying to recreate it with a curling iron, but I was curling with a flat iron. They couldn’t get that technique down so I was like there has to be a way to make this easier for them, so I started dabbling in finding out how I could create it. I thought it would be an attachment, but it ended up being a whole iron.
Q: And you had no idea what it would be able to do from there right?
J: I had no idea what it was going to free up for women. When I gave it to Ariya and she was trying it out and she was like, “I can only get it to straighten.” I was like “What are you doing?” and so she showed me and I was like, “AHHHH IT’S A STRAIGHTENER TOO?! THAT’S AMAZING.” I was just trying to help women achieve the styles that I was giving them.
Q: When you were a little girl did you dream of working in the beauty industry?
J: No! I literally thought nothing for myself. I had no big hopes or aspirations or dreams. I literally thought like I was good at nothing. I was like “How do I just get by every day?” and I always felt like I was good at everything but not GREAT at anything, so I didn’t really know how to excel at something and really put an effort forth. I do know that whenever we would braid hair in class or something, it was very easy for me to do. I didn’t connect that something being easy for me wasn’t easy for everyone else. A big part of the journey is trying to figure out how to feel what is easy for yourself. Because when it’s right it's just easy. Or it’s worth trying.
Q: Ranging back across the past century, is there a beauty trend you would want to bring back? Why?
J: I’m obsessed with ‘70s hair! The different things that they would try...it was all over the map! If you had big afro hair, you would rock it and it was amazing, or you would be so proud of that and I love that! If you had really sleek amazing hair, you would rock that. And if you were really into a bouffant kind of look, you could do that. I love that in the ‘70s you were true to you.
Q: What is your advice for people looking to break into the beauty world?
J: Be true to you! It’s very easy to get lost in the beauty industry following trends instead of being true to what you’re about. Find your niche in it. The beauty industry is so big and so vast that you can find your niche somewhere.
Q: Be honest. What’s your favorite TYME product? You can only choose one!
J: The iron. If I couldn’t choose the iron, that’s hard. Upstaged is so versatile, but if I didn’t have the shampoo and conditioner, I wonder what Upstaged would be like. Upstaged is epic, but I couldn’t imagine washing my hair more often. That’s like asking me to choose between my children...sorry, I like them all. Ok...Power Couple! The freedom it provides in your life you can’t even match.
Q: Is there anything new on the horizon for TYME?
J: Our Obsidian Iron! When I first came out with the iron it was like a sea of black irons. Very boring, no fun in the iron world at all and I just wanted to break from that tradition. Now I think so many (brands) have gone so far that most of them don’t look good on your counter. There’s nothing more amazing than a sleek black iron with bling on it. I’m really excited to launch that iron.
Q: What styling product should every woman have in her arsenal?
J: Upstaged because of how versatile it is. It can enhance anyone's natural style.
Q: What else are you excited about right now?
J: With 2020, we’ve had to revisit and clear out all of our closets. I’m really excited to see the other side of people being a renewed sense of themselves. When you are more isolated and you go in and you clean out your closets, whether metaphorically or physically, you come out new. It’s all fresh and new. I’m really excited to see people interact when they can show their smiles again. We get to reconnect in a whole new way after everyone has cleaned out their closets and we get to show up as our newest truest self.
Q: How do you measure success?
J: One moment at a time. I think the best thing that I have found for feeling successful is being present in every moment. Making a certain amount of money is no better than the smile on my kids’ faces. Do you know what I mean? Enjoying every little win along the way and being present for that, not thinking about the future or the past is the most rewarding successful thing I have found in my life. You have to be present to receive the presents.
Q: Who is your biggest influence in the beauty industry? Or just in general? Why?
J: I have an odd person and that’s Gary Vee. He has done so much to help people recognize what's good about themselves that I don’t think anyone in the beauty industry has touched that. That amount of being able to recognize it within yourself and let go of all the social constructs that we normally recognize as beauty and success.
Q: What do you want your legacy to be?
J: That I brought a smile to your face at some point. Whether it’s you recognizing the beauty within yourself because of something or you having a smile because your hair looks good that day. If I brought a smile to your face then I’m happy. That’s enough for me.
Q: If you could share one piece of wisdom with the world, what would it be?
J: Take judgment out. That is one of the most freeing things I have ever done is start freeing myself from judging myself and others. I found that because I was so hard on myself all the time I was harder on others. Once I started being less hard on others, I started being less hard on myself. It's such a catch 22 that I don't think we usually connect. When we’re so judgemental about ourselves it starts reflecting out to the world. You start to just judge everything without realizing it. I appreciate so much in everybody else, but I always was knocking myself, and in turn, that would come out into the world. Alleviating judgment at every turn I can is a big thing. You start thinking, feeling, and doing everything in alignment instead of thinking one and saying another. When you take out the judgment you don’t pull one way or the other you’re just kind of in the middle and it makes life a lot easier!
Balancing Being a Mom & Stylist: Allowing My Kids Style to Develop Their Way
Read Time: 1 min 24 sec As a parent, our responsibility is to prepare our children for the world. Some of the most valuable lessons we learn as humans are how to deal with adversity, and handle ourselves in challenging situations. Learning how to walk can be challenging but essential, just as learning how to style your hair. Learning how to style your hair is a key part of becoming who you are as a person, and will be apart of you every day of your life! (Video below) Balancing What you Want and What Your Kids Need to Develop I love watching kids learn and grow! Think about how adorable it is to watch a baby take their first steps. As parents sometimes we want things to be picture perfect when the true joy comes from watching the child succeed. When it comes to hairstyling in our house it’s balancing letting her be the person she is, which includes doing her hair her way unless she asks me for help. While watching her practice a new hairstyle, I know what result she is going to get or not get when she does certain things to her hair to try to achieve a specific style, but the beauty is when she learns and she thrives when she is doing her own hair and is proud of the outcome! Dynamics of What I Want to do With Her Style and What She Wants out of Her Style When you are helping with their style there are so many things that are important. One big thing to consider is remembering who has the inspiration for the style. If she has a picture in her head I do everything I can to get the style she wants, but sometimes she doesn’t have anything in mind and I can take the lead. I think it’s important that we treat our kids like we would want our stylists to treat us.
Sometimes we try to impose our likes and dislikes on our kids when they are a different generation than we are so they will clearly have different tastes than us. For example, my daughter loves scrunchies. I have been there, done that, but I love them on her! Let them get inspired and run with their style! When they can learn about their likes and dislikes it helps them grow into their own style. :) For more tips and hair tutorials, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest.
How to Maintain a Sunny Disposition Despite Stressors
Jacynda was asked recently during Facebook Live how she maintains a sunny disposition despite all her stressors. Here is what she had to say… Stressors are only stressors if you allow them to be! If you notice, there is one thing that I love that I learned through what I call becoming a couch wife to a CEO. It is that your perspective on everything is what makes every decision in your day. So if I look at a situation, no matter what, it has no meaning to me until I give it meaning. So that means I am the biggest influence in my life. I’ve actually had an interview where they’ve asked me, “Who is the biggest influence in your life?” And I said, “Myself,” because you make one thousand decisions in a day. There is absolutely no way that there can be another person that is a bigger influence than you. If you add your perspective and think of it as “this is my perspective every single day,” with every single decision, YOU are the only one that can give yourself the sunny disposition. The thing that you have to realize is that every single time you react, it's your choice to react in that way. I have this funny story, and I’m going to cuss because I think it's important to do this for effect. My friend was going through a divorce and had all this stuff going on and I basically put it to her like this, “Look, your ex could literally throw shit on your face. Literally throw it on your face. You can have a reaction where you go ‘ok’ and you just get rid of it, and it's gone! That ends that, and you have all the power in that moment. OR you could throw it back. They could throw it back and it could turn into this huge flight and literally it could go to the extreme of somebody dying. Because in a fight you never know what happens, right? But your perspective on it and your choice in that moment is what sets the tone for what happens after that.” It could be THAT different with every decision you make in the day if you think about it like that. So imagine, make your perspective “sunny” whenever you can, like that sunny disposition. :) Make sure that you are cognizant of those choices that you are making and how they affect other people...but none of them will affect anyone else in the way that they affect yourself and how you look at yourself and deal with yourself. Because after that moment when you make that decision you have to deal with the consequences of it always. Make sure you are proud of yourself in that moment, whatever it is. Whatever they’re throwing at you, you can do it. I’m not saying it will always be easy, but you can do it! For more tips and hair tutorials, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest
How to NOT Take Stress Out on Your Kids…
We are starting a series called “Inner Beauty” where we answer Life Challenge questions submitted from our Facebook Live viewers. This first one was submitted by a mom asking how to not take stress out on her kids, but this can be applied in other relationships as well! We’ve all probably had a day where we’ve had a boss or a teacher or somebody take something out on us and we can also probably remember how that made us feel. Now imagine if you are the one under stress.. Have your kids really done anything serious enough to warrant whatever it is that your stress is going to take out on them? So, what do you do? The best thing you can do is to take some time, even if you have to sit in your car for a few minutes and find a “theme song” for the moment, your “spirit animal” or a picture that represents who you are as a person and who you want to be as a mom. Make sure you get centered with yourself before you walk into a room with your kids and be responsible for the energy that you bring into that room. That is so important. Also understanding that you have very limited time of your kids’ lives with them, so spending that time in nurturing and developing them instead of taking your frustrations out on them is so key. Make sure you get centered with yourself and remember what kind of energy you want to bring to your kids before you go and take it out on them. For example, let’s say you are centered and you walk into a room and it’s a mess and you think “ugh that’s it, my kids are lazy, they’re not doing anything,” but little do you know, maybe your kids were in cleaning their rooms and they brought out toys to give away to kids.. It could be that different of a scenario, but the energy you bring into that room is what will guide how you react and how much you can help the kids. So take a minute to center yourself and make sure you can bring good energy to them! And remember, if it does happen that you take your stress out on them, regroup and move on! Don’t dwell on it because that’s not beneficial for anyone!! The key is to recenter, however that happens. Ask the kids for a take back. Say, “I’ve thought about what happened and I think I can do better so how about this…” and bring the new energy or new approach!
