5 Hairstyles You Can Recreate In 5 Minutes or Less on Mid-Length Hair
Woke Up Late? Short on Time? We got you! Here are 5 hairstyles to recreate on those days when it looks like you only have time for a messy bun (and not the cute kind). Oh, and the best part? All of these hairstyles work best on dirty hair! You’re welcome ladies!
How to Make Your Curls Last for Days
Read Time: 4 min 16 sec
The dream? Weekend-long curls. To make our long-lasting curl dreams come true, we’re confidently rejecting outdated "old wives' tales" and opting into an intentional styling routine.
Five major factors influence how long your curls last:
Your shower routine
How you dry your hair
Your prep steps
The styling process
Sleep and care
Your Shower Routine
When washing your hair, using the right hair products is crucial to creating a strong foundation. If your products are too heavy, they can weigh down your curls and affect how long they last. That's why we recommend using Pregame Shampoo, a lightweight product that cleanses and nourishes your locks without weighing them down.
On days when you're not washing your hair, use an Uplift Band to pull your hair up to the top of your head to prevent your curls from getting wet. You may also want to wear a shower cap if your hair is shorter or if you need help keeping it dry in the shower.
How to Dry Your Hair
To protect your hair, apply a thermal protectant when it is still 50% wet. The protectant will dry into your cuticles, safeguarding your hair for a longer period and helping your styles last longer. Blow-drying is a significant part of hair care, whether you air dry, diffuse, or go for an all-out blowout. Remember that how you blow-dry your hair affects which styles will work best for you until your next wash day. Learn more about your preferred blow-drying method and how it affects your hairstyle here.
Your Prep Steps
#1 Detangle Your Hair
Starting with untangled hair makes parting sections and curling your hair much easier.
#2 Protection
We highly recommend using Limitless Universal Spray as your prep product. However, using a strong thermal protectant will significantly impact how your curls turn out and how long they last.
The Styling Process
The TYME Iron Pro is designed to create a variety of long-lasting curls with ease. Follow these tips for best results:
Work with Small Sections
When curling your hair with the TYME Iron Pro, use small sections of hair that are shorter than the length of the titanium plates. This ensures that the section stays between the plates while curling.
Brush Each Section
Before curling, brush through each section of hair, even if it's already detangled.
Fan Out Your Hair
Flatten and fan out each section of hair like a sheet of paper to ensure even heating. Proper heating and cooling make a big difference in the longevity of your curls.
Mind Your Speed
The speed at which you curl each section of hair with the iron affects the longevity of your curls. If you go too fast, you'll get a looser curl that only holds for a short time and can create frizz. To avoid this, slow down enough to allow the hair to heat and cool evenly.
The Twirl
Once you have curled a section of hair, use a simple motion to twirl it into the perfect position while it cools. Where your hair cools is where it will stay!
Brushing Through
Whether you're finger brushing, using a wide-tooth comb, or a paddle brush, be confident in combing out your curls! They should be able to withstand brushing!
Securing Your Style
Complete your fresh style by applying hairspray! This final step isn't always necessary, but it is a surefire way to keep your curls intact. Our SelfieTYME Hairspray is formulated with memory resins, so you can confidently brush through your hair, knowing it will stay in shape! If your curls look too relaxed after brushing, you can reshape them by re-twirling them in the same direction as you originally curled them.
Sleep + Care
One of the main places where curls fall flat is in the bedroom. Our own body heat and weight of our heads squish and manipulate our curls overnight. Keep your hair safely up and away with these tricks:
If you have long hair, one way to help your curls last is to pull your hair loosely to the top of your head and secure it lightly with a hair tie.
For any hair length, split your hair down the middle in the back and fan it up and out to the sides for sleeping. This works best if you're a back-sleeper :)
A satin pillowcase causes less friction on the hair and keeps it smoother and less ruffled.
On the second or third day, gently brush through your hair with your fingers or a brush and reshape the curls into place. Touch up the curls if necessary, but most of the time, if you let your hair rest, you will be surprised at how it naturally falls back into the style you created the day before!
Long Lasting MYTHS
The advice we've always heard but maybe isn't always true.
Waiting a day or two to curl your hair:An old-school way of thinking is to curl on dirty hair to get your curls last longer, which means not curling on hair wash day. If we lived this way, a bride couldn't have fresh hair on her wedding day or a senior on prom night. Your products should perform for you to have fresh hair on your big days.
Making tighter curls:With the TYME Iron, you should feel confident in creating the style you are going for without making your curls tighter than you want in fear that your curls won't last long enough. By traveling down the hair strand at a slow, steady pace, you are heating and cooling the curl into place with the curve of the iron, allowing any curl to last for days!
Increasing your curling iron temperature:Do you have to increase your curling iron temperature to positively impact how long your curls last? Typically, the hotter the iron, the longer the curls last, but there is no black-and-white answer. Try curling slowly and steadily before you turn up the heat, and see if that works for your hair needs! You can turn up the heat, but in some cases, you risk your hair's integrity or health. If your curls aren't lasting as long as they should, you can try turning up the heat, but know that if your hair doesn't look shiny after you curl, you may have the heat too high.

TYME Tutorials: Ocean Waves
Read Time 1 min 53 sec
Move-over stamp and repeat barrel wavers. We took on the challenge of creating these organic beach waves with the TYME Iron Pro and TYME Iron Air - and we’re obsessed with the results.
Tools for this look:
TYME Iron Pro or TYME Iron Air
Limitless Universal Spray
Paddle Brush
Prep Work
Thermal protection is always a must! Add a healthy dose of Limitless Universal Spray before styling and brush it through the length of your hair for even protection. Keep your bottle of Limitless nearby after prepping. You’ll use it again! ;)
This Ocean Waves hairstyle is best created on fully detangled hair, so take an extra minute to make sure your mane is ready!
Creating an Ocean Wave
Unlike most TYME Iron tutorials, we started this three-barrel-inspired with our bottom layers of hair and worked our way up. Traditionally we style small vertical sections of hair, but found it easier to create our desired look with horizontal sections. You don’t have to section off your hair, but if it makes learning this style easier, grab your Uplift Bands and section away!
Notice the straightening side of the TYME Iron Pro? The one with open plates? This is the side you will be using to create Ocean Waves. Your thumb should remain behind the power button, but you’ll hold the iron at a horizontal angle.
The Rocking Motion
Similar to the Rocker Waves hairstyle, you create triple barrel waves (or Ocean Waves, as we like to call them) by moving the iron back and forth as you travel down the section of hair. To create these big waves, make a significant turn toward and away from you. Use your bottom pieces as a practice section to nail down the technique.
Pro-Tips:
#1 The rocking motion should be fluid and happen at the same time you’re traveling down the hair.
#2 Unlike traditional wavers, the TYME Irons let you control the size of your wave. Change the amount you’re rotating toward and away from yourself to change the size of your waves.
Once you’ve worked your way up, we suggest finishing your face-framing pieces with a soft bend. Use the TYME Iron Pro in the traditional curling grip and just barely rotate your wrist as you push toward your mirror.
Common Mistake: Don’t pause or squeeze too hard when rocking your iron! This can create creases in your hair. The rocking motion should be fluid.
Finishing the Style
Grab that bottle of Limitless Universal Spray you left out, and let’s put its mousse capabilities to work! Spray a healthy dose of Limitless in your palms, then rub your hands together until you feel the formula start to get sticky. Once it is sticky, gently scrunch Limitless into your hair for a more texture for a lived-in look. Limitless will help lock in your style, so no hair spray is needed, but always welcome ;)

A Dynamic Duo: BlowTYME + Triangle Brush
Read Time: 2 min 9 sec
The TYME Launch of the Triangle Brush in 2017, turned some heads. Making round shapes with a triangular brush seemed impossible, but that's our thing: making the impossible entirely possible.
"I created the TYME Triangle Brush to help women grab their hair from the root for voluminous looks. The non-slip grip makes it easy to hold and use on yourself or others. Unlike some other brushes, this brush doesn't need boar bristles. The triangular shape of this brush creates natural tensions so it can pick up even the shortest and finest of hairs." - TYME CEO Jacynda Smith.
We're expanding the beauty industry's geometric possibilities with the triangle brush ;) This little three-sided wonder puts salon detailing into your at-home blowout by giving users complete control over the outcome. With the proper airflow distribution, the Triangle Brush creates strategically placed bends precisely where you want them and even takes your blowouts from big and voluminous to soft and beachy.
Matching that styling capability with a top-tier hair dryer brought these styles to another level. The BlowTYME Hair Dryer and Triangle Brush bring movement and serious volume to unsuspecting hair types and lengths.
For Pixie Cuts
With short haircuts trending, the triangle brush lends itself to organic-feeling blowouts and incredible-looking hair on day one. Get more volume and dimension in your cut using the Triangle Brush instead of a round brush.
For Curtain Bangs

We're sure you're aware, but the glory of a curtain bang starts with the bend. Curtain bangs open up your favorite feature of your face, so getting the perfect bend is critical. The Triangle Brush and BlowTYME Hair Dryer duo work to not only perfectly place your curtain bang bend, but the cool-shot feature helps lock that bend into place.
For Volume at the Root
Fine-haired ladies, this is your sign that Triangle Brush needs to be added to your list of go-to tools. While round brushes are great for building body throughout the bulk of your hair, the Triangle Brush exceeds expectations at the root. Use the bristles to grab your locks right at the root and a point of the triangle to create tension for your blow dryer to lock into place.
Refining at the Root

Whether it's baby hair, sleeping too hard, or going hard in the gym, our face-framing pieces need a little refresher on day two+. Use the Triangle Brush to grab onto those hairs, and use your blowdryer to tame these pieces so you can feel your best and keep your hairstyle thriving throughout the week.
How to use the dynamic duo on different hair types:
Curly Hair
Use the Triangle Brush + BlowTYME Hair Dryer on blowout days to quickly smooth your hair right at the roots. OR smooth out your baby hairs before laying your edges.
Wavy Hair
Enhance a few of your natural waves by strategically placing a few extra bends throughout your hair.
Straight Hair
Give your face-framing pieces a lived-in look with a soft bend near your cheeks.
Short Hair
Who said blowouts were for long hair? You've just unlocked a new style opportunity!
How Your Blowdrying Method is Affecting Your Hairstyle
Read Time: 2 min 16 sec
Blowdrying is a HUGE part of hair care. Whether you air dry, diffuse, or go for an all-out blowout, there is one core note to remember when it comes to drying:
How you blow dry your hair influences what styles will perform best for you until your next wash day.
Diffusing
Your curls are going to look their best! Are you still able to straighten or curl? Totally, but if a straight look is your goal, giving yourself a blowout will be your easiest step to achieving that straight look. And you should let your curls have their moment for a few days if you're going to put in the work to diffuse them!

Pull the smoothed pieces tight (like a hair headband) and secure them together by the nape of your neck. Apply Limitless to smooth the front section and for a light hold.
Blowdrying with a concentrator + brush
This is the best combo for getting a great blowout look to last for days and really be able to control the detail in your blowout! This method will give you sleeker, straighter hair, ideal for straightening or curling. With this drying method, it may be difficult reviving natural curls until your next wash.

It's also a perfect tool if you struggle with the brush and dryer combo!

Air Drying
Air drying is an easy solution! Make sure you're still prepping your hair with a product, like Limitless Universal Spray, that will help support future styling. If you plan to sleep on wet hair, a good thing to remember is "where hair dries is where it stays." Sleeping on damp hair may cause more chaos to tackle in the morning.

TYME Tutorial: Styling Utah Curls
Read Time: 1 min 39 sec
One of TikTok’s latest hair trends has taken over our feeds: Utah Curls! This style is a fun new take on beach waves, but we’re seeing one major problem with all the tutorials we’ve seen so far…this look is taking way too long to create.
So we took on the styling challenge and did it in only 13 minutes. Here’s the rundown.
Tools for this look:
TYME Iron Pro
Limitless Universal Spray
Paddle Brush
Prep Work
As always, prep your hair for heat styling with a strong thermal protectant like Limitless Universal Spray. This wonder product will give you ample heat protection while working as a texturizer with medium hold.
For a faster styling experience, we recommend running your iron through the ends of your hair for a straighter look. Don’t let perfectionism get in the way of the overall style; your ends don’t need to stick straight!
Creating a Utah Curl:
Two significant differences set Utah Curls apart from Beach Waves:
#1 The Ends
Utah Curls leave a larger chuck or even the majority of hair straight.
#2 The Width of the curl
If we were to create Beach Waves with the TYME Iron Pro, we would keep our iron at a vertical angle, but for Utah Curls, we suggest keeping your iron at a 45-degree angle.
Start your Utah Curls with smaller vertical sections. Curl as if you were going to create a typical 45-degree angle curl, but gently release the iron’s pressure on your hair to leave out your ends. This gentle pressure release will prevent a sharp crease from curl to straight ends. Vary where you start and release your curls for a more lived-in look.
For short hair: Aim to release your curl around your ear.
For medium lengths: Aim to release your curl around your chin.
For long hair: Aim to release your curl around your shoulder.
PSA For Curly Hair!We repeat: Don’t let perfectionism get in the way of the overall style, though. Your ends don’t need to be stick straight! Lucky for you, the TYME Iron Pro smooths as it curls! To get the quintessential Utah Curl, we do suggest quickly running through your hair to straighten it, focusing on the bottom half of your hair!
Finishing the Style
Don’t overthink it! Utah Curls are a fun, lived-in look. You want this look to feel effortless and playful. Finish the style by running your paddle brush through all of your hair. Add a generous amount of Limitless Universal Spray to your hands to refine your ends and scrunch up into the curled areas.
Pro-Tip:
Ensure your Utah Curls make it to day two with a spritz of SelfieTYME Hairspray after styling! Since these curls already look “imperfect,” they look great on day two, too. Use an extra spray or two of Limitless to revive the curls.
The Holiday Look Book
Read Time: 2 min 40 sec
Every family does the holidays a little differently, some more dressed up, some in full-on matching PJs. No matter which type of party you’re going to (or how many), these styles will elevate your holiday look. Plus, nothing feels better than looking at pictures and remembering how great you looked and felt!
Prep Essentials
#1 Always prep your hair with a strong foundation, especially a thermal protectant. Lucky for you, Limitless Universal Spray gives you ample protection and all the benefits of a texturizer.
#2 Keep a versatile brush around! Brush each section before you curl to separate the hair strands for smoother curls. We typically reach for the Paddle Brush.

TYME Iron Pro Do's and Don'ts
Read Time: 3min 2 sec
The TYME Iron Pro is a shift toward a more efficient styling process. We use the Pro differently than one might use a straightener, because…well… it's different. The TYME Iron Pro has straightener-style plates that meet on an angle. This angle of the TYME Iron gives each user more control of the outcome of each of their curls. Because we know that it functions differently, we’ve compiled a complete list for every type* of learner, including this list of Do's and Don’ts.
Do's
✅ THUMB BEHIND THE LIGHT This is our #1, must-do rule. Having your thumb behind the light is a clear way to know you’re holding the iron correctly.
@tymeiron TYME Iron Pro Tip #1 How to Hold the Iron #tymeiron #tymetutorial ♬ smiles & sunsets - ultmt.
✅ KNOW THE STRAIGHTENING VS CURLING SIDE There are two long edges of the TYME Iron Pro. One has a little lip that covers the plates, this is the curling side. The other has exposed plates and is the straightening side. Whichever style you’re going for is the side of the iron that should go closest to your roots.
@tymeiron TYME Iron Pro Tip #3 How to Curl 💡 #tymeiron #tymetutorial ♬ original sound - lanasmonkeys
✅ ROTATE YOUR KNUCKLES AWAY FROM YOU To create a traditional curl that rotates away from your face, you have to create that same motion with your knuckles, kind of like "vrooming" a motorcycle. With your thumb behind the light, the curved edge closest to your roots, simply rotate your knuckles away from your face and glide the iron through the length of your hair. Pro-Tip: The amount you rotate away from your face will change your style of curl. A slight rotation will produce a lived-in, beachy curl, while a big rotation will create bigger, voluminous curls.
* If you want to curl toward your face, here is a tutorial straight from our CEO, Jacynda Smith.
✅ LEARN THE BEST TEMPERATURE FOR YOUR HAIR TYPE The temperature you use on your hair has a huge effect on how long your curls last. We designed the TYME Iron Pro with titanium plates for a faster heat transfer that makes your curls LAST. Giving you the opportunity to limit your hair’s heat exposure over time. We broke down the five different temperatures of the TYME Iron Pro to give you a head start.
300°: Great for fine and naturally straight hair. Perfect for doing day two or three touch-ups.
325°: Great for fine to a medium thickness of hair. Ideally used on straight or slightly wavy hair.
350°: Great for medium and wavy hair.
375°: Great for medium-thick curly hair.
400°: Great for thick, dense curls.
✅ PROTECT YOUR HAIR No matter your hair type or the heat style you’re going for, always, always, always prepare your hair with a strong thermal protectant.
✅ TWIST YOUR CURL INTO PLACE Your stylist does it at the salon to make your curls last and you should, too! Quickly after curling your section of hair rotate the freshly heated piece away from your face to set it in place. If you need a visual example, we’ve got you covered.

Don’ts
❌ IGNORE WHICH SIDE OF THE IRON YOU’RE PUTTING CLOSEST TO YOUR HEAD Using the wrong side of the iron to style can make for a poor experience with the TYME Iron Pro. If you need an extra hand learning the structure and proper usage of the Pro, we suggest starting here.
❌ OVER ROTATE THE IRON While the TYME Iron Pro may look similar to a straightener, a massive difference is the amount of rotation you need. A simple flick of the wrist is it. That’s all! Once your hair is placed between the plates, rotate your knuckles away from your face and that is all the rotation you need.
❌ PUT TOO MUCH HEAT ON YOUR HAIR If you’re prepping your hair properly, styling at a temperature that matches your hair type, and ending your style with hair spray, your TYME Iron Pro curls should last you for days.
HOWEVER, we’ve all been in that place where “that one curl just won’t sit right.” Our suggestion is to style your entire head of hair before judging the overall look and making any touch-ups. You can also turn your iron temperature down during touch-ups since those pieces have already been smoothed!
❌ PUT TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON THE PLATES With traditional straighteners, the outcome of your style depends on the amount of pressure you’re applying to your hair. The TYME Iron Pro works differently. The angle lets the plates meet similar to the way scissors meet. You don’t have to close scissors all the way to get a cut, and that same theory applies to the TYME Iron Pro.
