30 Day Hair Washing Challenge: Part 2
Read Time:
3 min 16 sec
We have spent the better part of the past year messy, comfortable, crying, you name it. None of us were quite ready for the isolation brought on with COVID-19. Somewhere along the way, it seems like we turned our sight inward and started that work, the healing work. We decided to face the things we had been avoiding, head-on. This process helped us clear space for the new version of ourselves, the authentic version.
Our team at TYME is challenging you to truly dedicate yourself to this new, authentic you. Being able to present that version of yourself takes time, and we all have plenty of that right now, don’t we? In this challenge, we are encouraging you to survey all the parts of your life that take too much of your time, specifically getting ready for the day. We want you to spend less time in the bathroom getting ready, and more time out in the world doing the things you love.
How do we cut that time?
Washing your hair, less.
Think about it. On an average day, washing your hair plus blow drying AND styling? That would take over an hour, easy. WHO HAS TIME FOR THAT?
Bare with us
Extending your wash cycle is definitely a challenge, especially if you’re an every day washer. Your scalp and hair follicle have adjusted to your wash cycle and anything out of the ordinary will cause them to work in over-drive, aka you’ll get greasy hair fairly quickly. While we don’t want you walking around with some late-90s slicked back hair, we do want you to try and bare with a little excess grease. (Don’t worry, we’ve put together a couple of hairstyles that will help get you through!) That means NO DRY SHAMPOO during this challenge.
Full disclosure: While dry shampoo may come in clutch when you have pushed your wash cycle a little too far, it really isn’t doing much for your scalp. Training your hair without the help of dry shampoo is best for your scalp health.
Start Small
X = days to wash your hair
Try this washing pattern! We’re not asking you to jump in and go 7 days between washes right away. If you wash your hair every day now, try going every other day for a week. Once your hair and scalp get used to that (usually about a week process) work on extending your wash by one more day and stay there until your scalp gets used to it again. Take the time you need, as this calendar is just a general guideline. You may need to play around with the schedule for what works for you. If you need to stick on washing your hair every three days for more than two weeks, that is a-okay! Allowing your scalp to adjust at a comfortable pace is key!
Win Big
Why is extending your wash good to consider? Not only is it better for your scalp and hair health, but it is going to save you tons of time and product! Getting ready will take half the time on the days you aren’t washing and blow-drying your hair, and if you practice this routine and use proper products, your hairstyles will follow suit. Your curls will last for days instead of just hours. Most of us here at TYME wash and style our hair once a week ;)
After this 30 day challenge, you should find yourself able to go more days without washing your hair. Was your goal to go 4 days? Amazing! Was your goal 7 days? No problem, continue this calendar into month two and just keep extending your days between washes by one day until your scalp is ready.
Terms and Condition(er)s
Shampoos and conditioners are not created the same way. We always advocate for a filler-free product, like Pregame and Showoff. They are the best for your scalp health and will get you the results you’re looking for, faster.
Another crucial aspect of this challenge is how you treat your hair after its washed. Here are our recommendations for the best outcome:
Use a lightweight thermal protectant before styling.
If blow drying, we typically suggest waiting until your hair is 70% or 80% dry before drying. Make sure you’re drying on a cool/warm setting, not hot.
Air drying is a great damage-free solution, too!
If you have gone past the point of no return and your hair is a little too oily, opt for a root lift powder instead of a dry shampoo. The powder will give your hair a matte appearance and give you styling power!
Think of all the things you could do with an extra hour. You have the opportunity to give yourself that time right at your fingertips (literally)! Don’t sell yourself short. All it takes is 30 days of practicing a small piece of self-care. WE BELIEVE IN YOU!

Just Getting By?
A few small details can go a long way while trying to keep your hair cut looking fresh. Here are a few tips for men and women with short hair looking to maintain the structure of their short cut, while still letting their length grow painlessly while practicing social distancing. Grab your edging clippers and let’s get started.
Neckline
When cleaning up the neckline, pay attention to the basic shape of the back of the hair cut. Is it square? What angle does the hair follow while traveling up towards the ears? Follow the line that is already there, and start by taking off a small amount to make this process foolproof. You can always remove more hair!
Cleaning Up A Hard Part
Use your straight comb to create a distinct part. Brush the hair in either direction to make the part clear and free of flyaways. Be sure to have a straight line with your section, as this is the line you’ll use to guide your clippers. Barely tap clippers along the part to create the line. Keeping the ears clear, closely follow the line that already exists from previous cuts. Remember to fold the ear out of the way so you have a clear line of vision and your loved one leaves this experience unscathed.
Trimming Sideburns
For a more natural look, we recommend finding the “v” around the middle of the ear. This is an optimal spot to cut off a sideburn from the rest of any facial hair. Create a straight line and slide clippers down to remove the rest of the unwanted hair.
Going All Out?
Follow all of the recommended steps above. After you have cleaned up the edges and made yourself a good outline to work off of, completely wet down your subject’s hair. Grab your comb, scissors, clippers, and desired guards.
Basic short men's hair cut cutting angles.
Basic long men's hair cut cutting angles.
Basic Tiger King hair cut angles. ;)
1. Is There A Disconnect?
If there is a long section that doesn’t match with the rest of the hair, brush the longer hair completely out of the way. Using your comb, pull the hair straight out, so the comb is parallel with the wall. Grab this hair with your pointer and middle finger and trim this excess hair with your scissors. If you end up with unsightly lines, use your comb to pull the hair away from the scalp vertically and barley trim the edges to soften the line.
2. Cutting The Top
Pull the hair directly up. Start small and cut directly across. If the side length is greater than the top length, comb this hair directly out towards the wall and cut it at a 90-degree angle. For people with thicker hair, this may result in a harsh line when the top and bottom hair is brushed together. Use your comb and pull the hair where these two sections meet, out at a 45-degree angle and cut into this section. Cutting into the section will lessen the look of a harsh line. Pro Tip: Trimming straight up and down on the sides and straight across on top will give the basic structure for a trimmed look.
3. Cutting At The Crown
Take the time to assess the length between the top of the hair vs the back. Cutting the crown is tricky, so it is important to game plan this section of hair. Ideally, you should be able to match the top length and the back length with a cut at a 45-degree angle. Start by matching the top length to the crown length with your 45-degree angle. After this length is matched, pull your crown length to meet your back length at a 45-degree angle and repeat the process.
FAQ
What Guard To Use?
Clipper guards are labeled in “weeks of growth,” so your #1 guard is one week, #2 is two weeks, and so on. Some kits are supplied with blending guards to help fade from guard to guard and make the cut appear seamless. Hair grows between a ¼ and ½ an inch a month. Keep that in mind so you know which guard to use.
Nervous To Start?
Always start with your biggest guard. This gives you the opportunity to backtrack with a smaller one without running the risk of accidentally giving someone a buzz cut.
No Guard?
Grab a comb! Use a scooping technique to make the hair stand out and clean up the ends with your comb! With longer lengths, you can pull the hair out with your comb and then pull the hair out between your pointer and middle finger. If you are using this method, remember that the first cut you make should start as your guide for the rest of the hair. Barely loosen your grip of this hair and use your comb to pull in a small section to cut alongside the section you just cut. Continue this process throughout the entirety hair.
Don’t Have Professional Shears?
Using shears that are not designed for professional grooming, usually results in cuts that are not precise. When working with unfamiliar blade sizes, remember to work in smaller sections. These smaller sections will give you consistency throughout the entirety of the cut vs chopping through large sections.
Cutting On A Toddler?
Put their favorite show on! Let them be entertained. They may be sensitive to the noise of the clippers, so don’t be afraid to use your scissors.

30 Day Hair Health Challenge
Read Time: 4 min 14 sec
Hair health can be determined by so many different factors. We get TONS of questions about hair health from customers. Since it is such an important topic in the industry, we’ve put together a hair health test so you can feel confident that you are taking the right steps to keep your hair healthy, or restore it!
There are billions of women in the world and it's safe to say few follow the same beauty routines. Whether it's a 50 step daily routine to a once a week complete overhaul, every woman’s styling, and care tactics are different.
At TYME we want you to take charge of your timeline and implement a healthy hair regimen when its right for you! We challenge you to take on 30 days of keeping a journal of the differences you notice after you implement these KEY tips for healthy hair!
Texture
Strength
Diameter
Patterns
Brilliancy
Scent
Focus On Texture
This test is all about using your sense of touch! Grab a good chunk of your hair and just FEEL it. Healthy hair should feel smooth and soft to the touch. When your hair starts to feel brittle or straw-like, that is a prominent sign that your hair is damaged. Damage that causes this feeling throughout our locks tends to stem from dehydration, over-drying, UV exposure, and excessive heat damage.
Always use a thermal protectant when styling your hair and protect your locks when out in the sun! Using a thermal protectant that protects from UV exposure and heat styling is our recommendation!
Don’t confuse damaged texture with coarseness though. Coarse, textured hair is something to be praised, but healthy textured hair should still feel hydrated!
Focus On Strength
We tend to pay a great deal of attention to the ends of our hair, but how often do you test the strength of the middle to top of your strands? These sections of your hair should be able to withstand a great deal of tension - think about the effort we go through to perfect a top knot or to squeeze that ponytail around for one more loop.
Want to test the strength of your hair? Take a medium to small section and twist! If you start to see “baby hairs” popping out all over the place and not just the bottom, this breakage is a telltale sign of weak strands. Weak strands are the result of over dried and dehydrated hair.
Start your journey back to strong strands with a dusting cut! Keep in mind when blowdrying that your hair should feel cool to the touch once it is dry, and should look shiny. If it is very warm to the touch and dull, you just blowdried a little too long. Great news!! You have the opportunity to fix this every time you wash and dry your hair. Click here for more blowdry tips!
Focus On Diameter Consistency
We’re testing individual strands this time around! At different points throughout your hair (crown, nape of the neck, face frame) run your fingers from the root of an individual strand to the end. If you feel a difference, test a few more pieces to see if the difference in thickness changes consistently in each strand. This change could be the result of chemical damage.
Over processing with bleach and color can weaken your hair over time. Avoiding chemicals on the areas of your hair that feel the weakest will help stop the breakage from becoming worse, as well as micro trims!
Focus On Patterns
Even though women tend to have a more intensive hair care regimen than the average man, we can still fall victim to hair loss. Although hereditary hair loss can be hard to combat, it's important to make sure you’re taking preventative measures to ensure the longevity of your locks! Our hair pattern should be fairly even throughout the entirety of our scalp.
Pay close attention to your entire hairline. If you find that hair is starting to appear sparse around this band, try switching up your hairstyle! Repetitive styles like a high pony or bun cause excessive tension to this band and cause the hair to adapt, resulting in hair thinning or hair loss altogether.
Notice this band of hair breakage in a different spot down the strands? Do you wear your hair up in the same spot frequently? This is a key sign that your hair is breaking where the hairband is placed. Try using something like a soft scrunchie instead! Notice a random thin section of hair?
Pay close attention to that spot when you’re styling next. You may be applying too much heat to this chunk of hair! Always wait to re-curl or straighten until AFTER the initial pass of heat has cooled.
Focus On Brilliancy
We all want our hair to SHINE, but is it too coated with fillers that make our hair look like Barbie's hair? Overuse of heavy, oily products can create excessive shine throughout our locks. Whereas, the lack of conditioner can make our hair look matte and dull. The best combination of product and conditioner is unique to your hair and takes a journey to find that perfect mix, but the work is so worth it! Imagine having gorgeous shiny hair for the rest of your life after only practicing your combinations for a few weeks.
Avoid using oily products, especially before styling with heat tools. Think about what oil does on a hot pan while cooking. Over time this can cause damage to your hair, and there are other ways to add shine into your strands :)
Focus On Scent
Even the smell of our hair is an incredible sign of our hair health. Properly moisturized hair will hold onto scents for days. (Excluding bonfire, that smell lingers for days no matter what!) If you notice a change in the scent of your hair when/after applying heat, that is proof your hair is dehydrated.
Condition well and ALWAYS use a thermal protectant. Avoid over drying and over styling with heat tools!
Grab your favorite bullet journal and take note of these six different categories for four weeks while implementing these changes. Everyone’s results will be different, but its a start of a journey for life long of healthy hair. We would love to hear your results, so please share it with us on any of our platforms!

The History Of The Original TYME Iron, And How It Is Affected By Frauds in 2019
Read Time: 1 min 48 sec

@jacyndasmith is talking about how TYME started and how all of the knock off TYME irons are affecting her dream.
A post shared by TYME (@tymeiron) on Nov 30, 2019 at 11:38am PST
TYME products are a decade of hard work and sacrifice in the making. In 2008, CEO Jacynda Smith made a bold decision to take the future of her family’s life into her own hands.
Her experience as a hairstylist and cosmetologist constantly put her in a room with women who wanted to BE better, who wanted to FEEL better, and Jacynda knew she could make that difference. By helping these women feel empowered by the way they look, Jacynda dreamed of changing lives. Although, like most young mothers, Jacynda knew that these women didn’t have the time to dedicate to their appearance.
That’s when TYME was born.
Jacynda’s genius idea to help women break through their shells, and Kierre Smith, Jacynda’s brother and now co-CEO, made it happen. The two worked hand-in-hand to develop and patent the TYME Iron, and in 2014, their dreams became a reality.
TYME is a small family-owned company made up of passionate, hardworking people who care about the vibrancy of women in today’s culture. We pride ourselves on always putting our best foot forward and believing that if you focus on the positive, the positive will come. Hard work has gone into all of our products and we always put the needs of our customers first - our employees even FaceTime our customers to make sure they’re getting the best experience with our products.
Let's Get Down To Business
The shopping chaos of the holiday season has brought fraud accounts crawling out of the woodwork.Through just December 1-18, TYME has reported at least 1,500 ads which are linked to 180 different sites...and that's just on Facebook. Knock-off brands like Mestar Iron Pro (also known as Me Star Iron Pro, or 2 in 1 Mestar Iron Pro), “duped” our product and are selling a cheap product with none of the quality the authentic TYME Iron, then use our contact information for customer service which reflects negatively on our company.
As we embark on a new decade, we want to emphasize the importance of authenticity. We want YOU to get the real thing, the real experience, the real results. We have witnessed the importance of supporting small companies and how it affects their employees and their families.
We also understand the value of your hard work and what your dollar means to you, which is why we have implemented the AfterPay payment option on all of our products.
We don’t think you should sacrifice a bill or a chance to spoil yourself and run the risk of buying a knock-off iron and risking the side effects (over-heating irons, use non-regulated materials, not receiving any product at all...the list goes on.)
In 2020, we’re pushing to encourage more conscious thought and shopping. It matters, and it’s time we speak up about it!

How To Shop Smart Online, And What To Do If You Have Fallen Victim To Fraud
Read Time: 3 min 43 sec
If there is one thing we are sure about - it’s the quality and thought behind our products.
At TYME we focus on bringing real change into the lives of women all over the world. We can only bring that change through the quality of our products and how we teach and encourage women to use them.
We have spent years developing the TYME Iron and the entire TYME line of products because we truly believe in the value of spending more time doing the things we love, instead of in the bathroom.
We believe our products allow our customers to be the best, most authentic version of themselves. Our focus is you and your individual experience with an iron made from the highest quality components available. The TYME Iron is made with professional grade titanium plates that allow it to heat up in 55 seconds. We offer five different heat settings - because every hair type is different - and we have the technology to allow your iron to remember what temperature you keep your iron at.
If you are purchasing a TYMEIron dupe how do you know that they are promising and practicing the same standard of quality and safety with their products? Let alone giving you the results they’ve “promised".
Companies like Mestar(also known as Me Star Iron Pro, or 2 in 1 Mestar Iron Pro) have stollen our ads, social media and website assets, brochures, and packaging and sell a fake iron to consumers. Not only does this hurt the family-owned company that worked so hard to bring a premium product to the beauty market, but many times customers either receive a product that doesn't work, malfunctions, or never even get sent a product altogether.
When you’re shopping this holiday season - especially on Black Friday and Cyber Monday - make sure you’re getting the authentic product...authenticity makes a difference. Tons of fraud companies make their money offering knockoff, cheap versions of other products, which hurts the companies that have worked so hard to bring you innovative and effective products!
We know it can be difficult to knowhow to spot a fake tyme iron vs a real TYME Iron, sohere are a few tips and tricks to make sure you’re not being taken advantage of byfraud products during shopping holidays.
Buy Directly from the Companies Website..and Check The URL
This is the safest bet. Companies typically give the best discounts on their products directly on their site**. Plus, you can always count on it being the real thing and getting the best deal, so it’s a win-win. The URL in your internet search bar typically says the name of the brand when it is a direct site. For example, our website is tymestyle.com!
**TONS of companies sell their products through Amazon...BUT most verified brands typically have their own shopping page through Amazon. Look for those shops and add those products to your shopping cart instead of reading hundreds of reviews on fake products from a weird user that doesn’t even mention the name brand.
This pertains to social media as well! Instagram and Facebook have all made it very simple to know you are purchasing from a verified company all based on the blue checkmark next to their social media handle!
Where are the “Often Bought With” Items?
When you’re online shopping there is a carousel of images towards the bottom marked “Often Bought With.” These are similar items that pair with the product you are buying. Typically they fall within the same brand line or genuinely just compliment the use of the product. If random items pop up that aren’t “on brand” with the item you’re looking at - beware of a fake product.
Check for the Full Product Line
There are hundreds of fake third party retailers online. They thrive on Black Friday and Cyber Monday and they TOTALLY bait you with their shipping deals. Does the idea of ordering new high end mugs, sweatpants, jewelry, and hair products all from one site sound legit?
Be careful.
You should always double check to make sure the site you’re ordering from carries more products from the brand your item is associated with. If you can’t find any of the other products from that brand on the site...RED FLAG.
Check the Price
Companies don’t give their products away for free...unless it’s a literal giveaway. You won’t find quality products for a fifth of the price, even if it is Black Friday. Deals and steals do exist, but be wary of the discount your getting. It could end up being a knock off.
Watch the Discount Amount.
Companies will offer percentage discounts that make sense 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, etc. This isn’t always the case, but if something like 83% or 47% comes across your screen, you might want to do a little more research into the product you are thinking of purchasing.
Shop Demo or Refurbished Products
Every company has products they use at events or for photoshoots. The retailers can’t sell these as “new” products, so they often offer them as they are, just at a significant discount. The link to these products typically lives towards the bottom of a website in the footer. And the best part? You don’t have to wait for a shopping holiday for the discount. “Gently used” means it might have a small scratch or smudge, but why should that stop you?
Fallen Victim to Scam/Fraud?
If your charge says anything other than TYME LLC, you have not purchased from us. We’re doing everything we can, and working with Facebook to get these sites taken off of social media.
If you have any information about the company you purchased from, please send it to us so we can report it.
If you paid with a credit card, the best way to get your money back is by filing a chargeback with your credit card provider. You can file the chargeback as:
Item is not as described
Did not receive the package
No response from the company

What To Look For When Air Drying Hair
Read Time: 1 min 48 sec
You just took the most relaxing bath of your life and your hair is sopping wet. Sometimes we don’t want to get rid of those calm, comfy vibes by blow-drying our hair! (Although the BlowTYME is extremely quiet...) Another option is to let those locks air dry and keep your #selfcare moment lasting!
At TYME there is a #1 topic that we stick to...hair health. We love wash-cycle longevity and amazing styles, but you can’t achieve those things without healthy hair. Below are a few tips to boost the health of your hair while getting to ditch the blow dryer for a wash or two.
Pay Attention
When you let your hair air dry it’s best to pay attention to the amount of time it takes to dry. The faster the better, which means you have healthy hair. If it takes a long time, that means your hair requires some moisture! Think about it, if your hair is taking forever to dry - especially blow dry - you’re putting direct heat on your hair for a significant amount of time, therefore, drying it out even more. It’s a vicious cycle leading to serious hair damage.
If your drying time is taking too long - air drying or blow drying - it’s time to take a step back and focus on the moisture levels of your hair.
Reduce Frizz & Elevate Your Natural Texture
Having thicker or coarse hair is always a struggle when it comes to drying. Of course, making sure our hair is moisturized properly is vital, but switching up our drying style can almost completely change the feel of our hair. People with curly hair should try using products that are moisturizing and help with the definition of curls without becoming oily or crunchy.
Combine those products with a gentle towel dry will smooth your locks and give new life to your thirsty curls. On the other hand, people with thinner, straight hair should try products to add some texture to their hair. Volumizing powder sprays can instantly give you that beachy look you’re dying for.
Air Drying Doesn’t Have to be Boring
Just because it’s a bit of a lengthier process than normal, doesn’t mean it has to be lame. Take these opportunities to play with the texture of your hair and try new products you normally wouldn’t. Try using a styling product like Upstaged! It can add serious texture and structure to a style. Texturizing Sprays like BigTYME can elevate your hairstyles for that entire wash cycle. This stuff will add wild lift to your hair - doing more than replacing the lift you would normally get from blow-drying.

I Tried TYME Products For 6 Weeks And This Is What Happened
Read Time: 4 min 55 sec
I’d best describe my #selfcare tactics as L A Z Y. In my world, work is king. If I’m spending time during the day doing anything other than my job, it turns into an anxiety frenzy of “Oh no! Why did you waste all of that time?” This included spending too much time getting ready. So my long bob cut lends itself to my chaotic lifestyle of being over-caffeinated and overworked.
In 2015, my friend and then hairstylist Savannah - now TYME stylist - told me about this “mind-blowing” iron. While sitting in her chair she pulled out this curved iron and tried to explain how to use it. I wasn’t sold, yet.
Fast forward four years and a chance meeting, days after Savannah moved back to the area, and she was now working for this company: TYME. The company that sells the iron she showed me years ago. I started looking into their products and I completely drank the Kool-Aid. The iron looked like it could work wonders, but does that lend itself to my hair?
I ended up getting the TYME Iron and the BlowTYME dryer knowing that if I couldn’t figure it out, I had one of the company’s stylists just blocks away. Two weeks into owning the iron and I was o b s e s s e d. I figured out how to curl my hair - all by myself - and it only took me less than 15 minutes to get ready - makeup and all. So, we decided to take it a step further. I knew how incredible the iron and blow dryer were, but what about the rest of the products? If the TYME team spent their time making two products this time saving, why would they waste their time making other products that aren’t as effective?
I got the whole collection. Shampoo and conditioner, thermal protectant, hair spray, volumizing powder, shine spray, and four different hair brushes. I was going to embark on a six-week TYME trial.
My Previous Routine
My hair is thinner in texture and straight, so I could get away with washing my hair twice a week - with massive amounts of dry shampoo - and it still looking o.k. I used a tea tree-based shampoo and a basic “volumizing” conditioner. My hair might have been styled in between washes, but usually, it just laid straight or was tossed into a ponytail. Dry shampoo was almost always applied on day two to make the wash last longer.
Expectations
I knew I wanted to do this trial the right way. I wanted to see if the products truly worked and how it would affect my lifestyle. I asked Savannah what my hair should be like at the end of the six weeks and made sure to thoroughly read all of the directions on the bottles.
My hair should:
Feel stronger
Last longer between washes
Hold styles longer
Hold more volume
Process
In the shower
I thoroughly wash my hair with Pregame Shampoo and try to squeeze it as close to dry as possible after washing. Once I feel my hair isn’t totally sopping wet, I apply Showoff Conditioner from the tips to the roots of my hair. I let the conditioner moisturize my hair for close to five minutes while handling the rest of my shower duties.
Blow Drying
When I’m done with the shower I try to wring out the majority of water from my hair and put it in a towel. Once my hair is about 30% dry, I apply TYME’s Upstaged Thermal Protectant. I blow dry my hair, starting with my bangs, focusing on drying my roots first.
Styling
The Upstaged Thermal Protectant is already in my hair from blow drying, so I immediately get to curling with my TYME Iron set to 375 degrees. Once my full head of hair is curled I use the TYMELESS shine spray and brush through all the curls. Applying Selfie TYME hair spraying is my last step.
Weeks 1 + 2
Total washes: 6
Week one started off rough. Our midwestern weather was touchy - per usual - and the rain held me back from truly experiencing all the benefits or TYME products. I ended up washing my hair every other day the first week and was able to stretch it to every two days by the end of the cycle. I’ll admit, it was a challenge to not use dry shampoo, but I really wanted to go through this process and train my hair the correct way.
One thing, I immediately noticed how dreamy my hair smelled! All TYME products have the same scent, so it’s basically like a built-in perfume and because it’s in your hair, it lasts longer than normal perfume. By the end of week two, my hair felt fuller. My hair wasn’t holding a full style for more than a day, but I was able to salvage and touch up some curls to make styles last for day two. I spent more time with my hair down and styled than pulled back, so I truly was able to realize the change in texture.
Weeks 3 + 4
Total washes: 4
I got bold in week three. I tried stretching my hair out to three days way too soon and ended up having to cheat on the dry shampoo thing. I pulled and stuck to washing every two-days for the rest of this cycle. I was pretty experimental with the TYME brushes, and utilized them in my blow drying. Normally my hair lays flat and I can only get volume from teasing my hair, but combining a DIY blowout with BigTYME made a huge difference.
Weeks 5 + 6
Total washes: 3
The end of the cycle. In week 5, I stretched my first wash out to three days...CURLED. Don’t get me wrong the day three curls weren’t perfect, but they stayed! I waited to wash until day five and didn’t wash again until day nine. That final wash lastest through day 14. My styles were lasting longer and looked effortless.
The Results
Much like your body adjusting to the gym, it took time for my hair to adjust to TYME. I didn’t expect it to be perfect after the first try - although I totally wish the going to the gym worked like that. Consistently blow drying my hair has breathed new life into my hair, and my hair is staying styled longer and isn’t getting greasy as quickly as it used to.
Plain and simple TYME is true to their mission. I spent less time in the bathroom getting ready and even less time worrying about what I looked like.
The Significance
I was a cheerleader for most of my life and always felt like what I looked like mattered. Once I was done with the sport, I stopped spending time “getting ready.” It didn’t seem important anymore. However - spending these six weeks investing in myself, changed my perspective.
Aside from my hair feeling and looking healthier, there was one oddly life-changing realization…the phrase “look good, feel good” is true. Everything from my work to my workouts improved when I knew I looked good. It didn’t matter if anyone told me I looked good, I felt it. I felt cute, like really cute, and you look at the world a little differently when you feel that good about yourself.
How To Resolve The Top 4 Hair Challenges
Read Time: 3 min 50 sec
It can be easy to dissect and pick apart all the details that we don't like about our hair. The color, the cut, the length, the texture, and the list goes on.
Unless you have a stylist at your beck and call, it can feel impossible to get your hair to be exactly the way you want it. We’re going to give you our best tips, tricks, and products to help make your routine a little easier!
Need More Volume?
The Basics: Do you have the type of hair that feels like heavy and silk, baby fine, or limp? Typically flat hair is caused by two things: foundational products and how your hair dries.
The Tricks: We consider foundational products to be products that you use when your hair is wet. Are your shampoo and conditioner heavy and weighing down your hair? This is SUCH a common thing. If your shampoo and conditioner are heavy, you typically feel the need to wash your hair every day, or every other day.
Switching to products that are mild and lightweight will make such a big difference in how your hair performs throughout the day. Blow drying your hair properly will make a HUGE difference in your volume.
For starters, you should always try to blow dry your hair, BUT don’t over-dry! Your hair should always be cool to the touch after blow-drying, never hot! Focus on your roots, and if you're craving serious volume incorporate a round brush into your blow-drying routine.
Prefer to air dry? Consider at least blowdrying at the roots and displacing your part. Brush your hair all to the left, then switch to the right to get as much airflow and lift at the scalp as possible!
The Products: Shampoo & Conditioner: You want to find a duo that won’t weigh your hair down, but still gives you all the healthy goodness. May we suggest Pregame Shampoo and Showoff Conditioner?
;) Our TYME shampoo and conditioner are made from the highest quality ingredients, to make sure your hair is getting everything it NEEDS and nothing to weigh it down.
BigTYME: This powder is a gift from above (pun intended) ;) A few sprays throughout your roots and top of your hair and you’ll be at new heights! Different than your average texture spray, Big TYME is dedicated to giving you a serious lift.
Frizz?
The Basics: Frizz can be caused by a few different things. Heat tools and the environment are among the most common reasons.

The Tips: When blow-drying, be cognizant of the direction of the airflow vs the direction your hair is laying. You want to blowdry down onto the hair strand, and not directing the airflow back up the hair strand. If you properly direct the airflow this will allow your cuticle layer to lay down smooth, which retains your hair's natural moisture and shine!
If you live in a humid environment, your hair's best friend is moisture! The more moisture your hair already has, the less your hair will react when there is moisture in the air. Your hair will not feel the need to try to draw the moisture from the air into the strand, thus your strands will stay more smooth!
The Products: TYMELESS Repair and Shine Spray: AKA Liquid Gold. We are OBSESSED with this stuff. The more you use it, the less you will feel the need to use it. TYMELESS repairs your hair from the inside out, and adds moisture, allowing your strand to shine!
Take Too Long to Style?
The Basics: When people have long hair or thick hair, styling can be such a pain. As a team of stylists, trust us when we say WE UNDERSTAND YOUR PAIN.
The Tricks: Adjust your washing cycle. Once you get a good 3-7 day cycle going, it’s easy to make one hairstyle last days on end. Our whole mission at TYME is to save you time in the bathroom...get it? Time→ TYME? We’ve compiled a plethora of easy hairstyles that will last. Check them out on our blog.
The Products: TYME Iron Pro! This tool takes out a huge factor in styling your hair: sectioning. It is arguably the worst part of styling, and we found a way to get rid of it completely. The curls will last for days, and you will find yourself wondering what life was like before the TYME Iron before you know it.
A good, liveable hairspray. We suggest SelfieTYME. Our hairspray is designed with memory resins to give you all of the hold, with none of the sticky starchiness.
Get Oily Too Fast?
The Basics: This is your hair begging you to stop washing it every day. We recently went in-depth about what the actual oil/grease on your scalp is and why your scalp NEEDS the oils it produces. Get the full scoop here.
The Tricks: Start by skipping a day or two in your washing cycle. Once your hair adjusts to this cycle you’ll notice that eventually, you’ll be able to last 2-4 days without ANY dry shampoo. We’re serious.
If you can, we always recommend blow drying after your shower. Blow drying helps lock in all unique moisture and seals down your cuticle layer. Properly blow-dried hair is cool to the touch and shiny!
The Products: Pregame Shampoo and Showoff Conditioner: We’ve developed the BEST shampoo to make sure your washes last...if we do say so ourselves. Our shampoo and conditioner are designed specifically so you spend less time washing. We want you out there showing off your locks, not trying to start from scratch every day.
Heed our advice and start saving achieving your #HairGoals by spending LESS time in the bathroom!

Stop Washing your Hair Every Day - We’re Serious!
Read Time: 2 min 35 sec
Every day? Every other day? No way!
“But my hair gets greasy if I don’t wash it every day.” We get that, too.
You have Pavlov’ed your hair to being stripped of natural oils every day, and that’s not a good thing! Your skin overproduces a little thing called sebum to try and lock in moisture. Most of us would call sebum “grease.” Currently, your scalp is instantly starting to produce sebum after your shower to try and secure the moisture from your conditioner.
Re-read that ;)
Your scalp produces “grease” to try and lock in moisture, just like your body produces sweat to try and cool you down. When you wash your hair every day, you’re stripping it of all the necessities. You’re basically sending SpongeBob into Sandy’s dome with no source of water. Take it from us. Our team of style experts all have backgrounds actually working in salons and taking on a variety of hair conditions and scalps. If the fact that our scalp produces “grease” to save our scalp isn’t enough, here are two more very good reasons.
Hair Thinning/Loss
When your scalp is constantly in overhaul trying to produce sebum to lock in any moisture possible, it’s putting a lot of stress on your hair follicles. This usually results in inflamed hair follicles. Inflamed hair follicles don’t allow the actual strands of hair to grow to full potential. Think of it like taking the top of a water bottle off versus poking a hole in the top. One method is stronger than the other.
Dandruff
The bane of every black outfits existence. Dandruff is caused by - shocker - a dry scalp. Dandruff is actually flakes of dry skin coming off of your scalp. Dry skin on your scalp? A direct result from over washing.
Next Steps
The products you use are so important. Generic shampoos are made with fillers that weigh your hair down and take away volume. It’s best to research what shampoos and conditioners are best for your hair.
BUT - we’ve already done a lot of research. This is the number one and the ONLY reason we do the work to promote TYME products. We KNOW they are made with your hair and scalp in mind. Our Pregame Shampoo has a short ingredient list that feature the necessities of hair care.
Tips + Tricks
Avoid Dry Shampoo
This sounds counter-intuitive, but If you’re trying to lengthen your wash cycle, some dry shampoos have cleaning agents in them, which reset all of your hard work! Instead, brush through your hair and spray a soft root lift powder like BigTYME at the roots to help matte your roots.
Rinse Day
To start lengthening your wash cycle, start by adding a “rinse day” to your schedule. Do your normal daily shower, but instead of washing and conditioning your hair, just give it a thorough rinse AS IF you were washing it.
Make it Gradual
We don’t expect you to go from washing every day to washing once a week overnight. This is a process, and your scalp will need time to adjust. We recommend adding a day between each wash until it feels natural. This may take about a week or so, depending on how heavy your shampoo and conditioner are. Every time that your scalp feels adjusted add another day in between washes! By the end of the month, you may already be a once-a-week washer!
Proper Blow Drying
When blow-drying your hair, it should never feel hot. Hot hair is an indication of over-drying. Over-drying results in a dry scalp, which then results in the overproduction of sebum. Blow-dry from the roots out and make sure your hair feels close to a lukewarm or room temperature when you are finished.
