Understanding your hair texture and nurturing it right
How to care for your locks based on your hair texture
Hair texture is always a taboo topic. We never like what we’re given, and always want what we don’t have—unfortunately, it’s the way the cookie crumbles. Our ethos is all about the intricacies of texture and how each strand tells a unique story.
From the colors it’s seen, products you’ve used, or those noughties curling irons that were fire hazards in itself—your hair remembers what it’s been through (talk about dramatic?).
Have you ever wondered why your best friend’s voluminous curls seem to blow along in the breeze like a 90s supermodel, while your sleek strands resist every attempt at a wave and stick to your face? It's all in the texture! We love wash-cycle longevity and amazing styles, but you can’t achieve those things without truly healthy hair.
One size certainly does not fit all in the world of locks. Whether your mane cascades in a wave, bounces with curls, or oozes a sleek straightness, understanding your hair type is the key to unlocking its true potential.
We're here to demystify the intricacies of hair texture, debunk the myths, and guide you through the tailored care your strands deserve and demand. Because after all, haircare is a ritual you can’t afford to skimp out on.
What is my hair texture?
Ever sat and wondered why your hair seems to have a personality of its own? Well, it's all in the texture.
Hair texture goes far beyond the surface, delving into the intricacies that make each strand distinctive. And, though we aren’t going to solve some of life's greatest challenges, we’ll help with one menial task that’s on our minds daily—our hair.
We hope this helps when you’re standing on the beauty aisle puzzled about what hair care products to pick out––because we’re going to break it all down for you. Let’s explain where you fall when it comes to finding your texture.
Texture is more than just a touch-and-feel experience—it influences how your hair responds to styling, products, and overall care. We’ve all been there and thought, ‘why doesn't the airwrap curl your hair?’
Besides products, it can be that your hair has a texture that may not lift. From fine, or medium, to thick and coarse, here’s our list to help you identify and embrace the unique nature of your strands.
P.S. Neither one or the other of these textures is better than the other. It’s all about caring for what’s right for you—and keeping your hair safe from harm.
Fine hair texture
Characteristics: Fine hair strands are smaller in diameter, often giving a silky and delicate appearance. Though you may not like it feeling flatter, we can guarantee that those with thicker hair are dying for the luxury of having it thin and silky.
Feel: If you can barely feel a strand between your fingertips, you likely have fine hair. It can feel super silky, or dry and knotty—more often than not, thin hair is the hair that jams the hairbrush, so the leave-in-conditioner is your savior!
Styling tip: Fine hair is prone to oiliness, so opt for lightweight products to avoid weighing it down. If you’re looking for some volume, we recommend a lighter extension to give your thinner hair less pull—try a set of light volume extensions, they’re bomb.
Medium hair texture
Characteristics: Medium-textured hair falls between fine and thick, striking a balance in diameter. It’s the middle ground, and usually, when people struggle in the hair care aisle, it’s because they’re more of a medium type of gal or guy.
Feel: You can easily feel the strand, but it's not overly coarse or too delicate.
Styling tip: Medium hair holds styles well and is versatile, making it suitable for various looks. Why not try a pin curl using a set of 90s blow-out rollers—but always remember to use a moisture repair serum first!
Thick hair texture
Characteristics: Thick hair boasts a larger diameter, giving a voluminous and robust appearance—but it can differ between being dry or coarse.
Feel: Strands are easily felt and may be dense, providing a fuller look.
Styling tip: Use more substantial styling products, as thick hair can handle and often requires more moisture. Beware to not overheat, as sometimes you can’t tell that you’re inflicting heat damage. Try out this heat protector—it’s a saving grace for hair.
Identifying your hair texture sets the foundation for tailoring your care routine to meet its specific needs. Now, armed with the knowledge of your hair's category, you can start personalizing your routine so that you can make the most out of your look.
Understanding the diversity of hair: what’s my hair type?
You’ve heard it before, but we’ll say it again—your hair type is as unique as your fingerprint. Each strand is engrained with what it craves to prosper. The more damage that is inflicted, the more care that it will demand.
We’re going to explain the intricate, scientific details of different hair types, from straight to coily to help you really pinpoint which area you fit into.
Straight hair
Type 1A
Type 1B
Type 1C
Very straight and fine, common for those of Asian descent.
Thicker than 1A, still very straight, with medium texture and more volume.
Very thick and coarse, maintaining the straight and shiny characteristics, making curls challenging to hold.
Wavy hair
Type 2A
Type 2B
Type 2C
Wavy with fine or thin texture, featuring S-shaped waves that are easy to style.
Medium-thick waves, prone to frizz, offering a balance between straight and curly.
Thick, coarse, and wavy, often challenging to style due to frizz.
Curly hair
Type 3A
Type 3B
Type 3C
Shiny, thick, and defined curls, prone to frizz.
Combining different textures, with tighter curls presents a unique challenge.
Characterized by very tight curls or kinks, often overlooked but distinctive in its texture.
Coily hair
Type 4A
Type 4B
Type 4C
Soft with tight and well-defined curls.
Soft and fragile, featuring very tight and less defined curls.
Exhibits such tight curls that it may not initially appear curly, often sensitive, and easily damaged.
Debunking the blow-dry myth
The age-old debate on ‘does blow drying your hair damage it’ has left many hair enthusiasts puzzled. This dilemma has been spoken about in every hairdresser and every glossy magazine—but what really is the rule?
Some of us are daily washers, and some are once weekly. Truth is, there may be no rule, but how are we supposed to dry our hair?
For the record, any form of heat will always damage your hair. So the myth that towel drying is actually worse, is just a myth. A 2011 study published in the Annals of Dermatology did mention that not using hair dryers will result in a “relatively well-protected hair surface,”—so you do the math.
Picture this, you’ve soaked in a candlelit tub with your facemask on, then dried off and put on your new silk pajamas—perfection, right? Why would we want to ruin the feng shui when you can towel dry your hair and let it dry au natural? Sitting for half an hour with the hair dryer will dampen the mood. We get it.
We’ve broken down the myth to explain that when done right, you can do both.
Is air-drying your hair better?
Scientific insight
A common belief suggests that allowing hair to air-dry is inherently gentler, minimizing the potential damage associated with heat.
Research published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science challenges this assumption. The study emphasizes that the prolonged exposure of wet hair to external factors, like environmental humidity, can lead to swelling of the hair shaft, resulting in structural damage. So, in essence, we recommend not leaving the house—who would want to anyway?
TYME’s nurturing approach
While air-drying has its merits, especially for specific hair types, it's crucial to strike a balance. Consider towel-drying your hair gently to remove excess moisture before air-drying. You could also opt for a special hair towel that minimizes breakage and keeps your locks split-end-free.
If opting for air-drying, use products designed to protect hair from environmental factors. Leave-in conditioners with UV protection can be beneficial to achieve glossy, smooth hair.
How to blow-dry your hair?
Scientific insight
Proper blow-drying techniques, along with the use of heat protectants, can help minimize damage. A study in the International Journal of Trichology channels the importance of temperature control during the blow-drying process.
The research suggests maintaining an optimal distance between the hair and the blow dryer, which we recommend 6 inches away, combined with the use of a diffuser attachment.
TYME’s nurturing approach
Invest in a quality blow dryer with adjustable heat settings. Low or medium heat levels are often sufficient for effective drying without excessive damage. We rarely use the hot setting unless your hair is super thick and slathered in treatment.
Apply a heat protectant before blow-drying to create a barrier between the hair and the heat. Remember, no thermal stress is less hair stress!
Air drying tips
At TYME, our commitment is to prioritize hair health above all. While we adore achieving wash-cycle longevity and curating picture-perfect styles, the foundation of it all lies in the health of your hair.
Let's explore some tips to enhance your hair's well-being while embracing the simplicity of air-drying, offering a break from the blow dryer.
1. Gentle towel drying
After washing, blot your hair gently with a microfiber towel. Avoid rubbing vigorously, as this can lead to frizz and damage.
2. Choose the right products
Select hair care products like the mega bundle that caters to your specific hair type. Hydrating serums, leave-in conditioners, and styling products can enhance your hair's natural texture without the need for excessive heat.
We recommend you keep up to date with all of the Lauren Ashtyn collection, the team are constantly in the lab creating the perfect products to treat your tresses.
3. Detangle with care
Use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to detangle damp hair gently. Starting from the tips and working your way up can prevent breakage and minimize stress on your strands.
4. Be patient
Allow your hair to air-dry naturally whenever possible. If time allows, avoid rushing the process to let your locks dry at their own pace.
5. TYME’s expert tips
Explore our expert tips for air-drying hair in our blog covering what to look for when air-drying and the secrets to achieving optimal results.
By embracing air-drying and prioritizing the health of your hair, you not only enhance its natural beauty but also contribute to long-term strength and resilience.
How often should you wash your hair?
Scientific insight
The frequency of hair washing depends on various factors, including hair type, scalp health, and individual preferences. A study in the International Journal of Trichology highlights the importance of personalizing your washing routine.
Overwashing can strip the scalp of natural oils, leading to dryness and increased oil production as a compensatory mechanism.
TYME’s approach
Listen to your hair. If you have a drier texture, you may not need to wash it as frequently. Those with oilier hair may benefit from more regular washing.
Use sulfate-free shampoos to maintain a healthy balance. Incorporate dry shampoo between washes to manage oiliness without overwashing—that’s our top tip!
When you’re figuring out the air dry or blow-dry debacle, understanding the science behind it won’t always direct your decision. We know that there are days you’ll wake up and crave a fresh blowout with a clean head of hair, and that’s okay, too.
Tailor your approach based on your hair type, preferences, and lifestyle, ensuring that your hair care routine aligns with both science and self-care—and always do what feels right for you.
Listen to your hair and always do what’s best for you
We hope you’ve managed to pinpoint where you fit in the wheel of hair textures. Everyone is different, and all hair needs personalized treatment to get the best out of it. From fine strands that crave lightweight care and less washing to thick locks yearning for substantial moisture, remember: there's no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to hair care.
There’s plenty of myths doing the rounds on socials and our advice is: don’t always listen to it. Whether you choose to embrace air-drying simplicity or indulge in a carefully executed blow-dry, prioritize the health of your hair above all.
At TYME we champion the #1 topic: hair health. Textured hair needs love and care, and we funnel that into everything we do. Our commitment extends beyond achieving stunning styles; it's about fostering what you already have, and making it work.
May you have strong luscious hair, and style it however you please—we’re all unique and that’s what makes hair super exciting.

Ok…but what is TYMELESS?
TYMELESS is a unique hair repair product designed for all hair types. It is a highly effective finishing touch that completes our capsule hair care routine. The product is an invisible dry hair mask that restores and revitalizes strands, leaving your hair instantly strong and shiny. The formulation of TYMELESS includes Hydrolyzed Adansonia Digitata Seed Extract, also known as Baobab Tein or the Tree of Life. It is one of the most potent hair repair complexes available on the market. TYMELESS delivers numerous anti-aging benefits to your hair, making it a must-have product for your hair care routine. TYMELESS:
- Penetrates hair strands to repair and reverse previous damage
- Thickens hair cuticle building stronger strands after the first use
- Cascades over hair to provide additional protection from UV damage
- Nourishes strands for a shiny instant transformation.
- Hydrates hair for better performance and provides anti-frizz properties.
How does TYMELESS work?
When you spray TYMELESS on your hair, you're giving it an instant, noticeable boost and providing it with long-term benefits. The proteins in this repair and shine spray penetrate your hair cuticle, quickly nourishing and strengthening each strand of hair. TYMELESS hydrates your hair from the inside out, plumping each individual hair and making them stronger in a matter of seconds.
The benefits of using TYMELESS don't stop there. Since it repairs your hair from the inside out, regular use of the product will help your hair become stronger and more resilient over time. This means that you'll eventually need to use TYMELESS less often as your hair becomes more capable of repairing itself from the damage caused by everyday stressors like heat tools and UV exposure.
How do I use TYMELESS?
Using TYMELESS is quick and easy! Start by shaking the bottle to ensure that the formula is well-mixed. Then, spray it evenly over your hair, lightly covering all sections. TYMELESS is a dry leave-in mask, which means that it doesn't require water to activate, and you can wear it all day without any discomfort or residue or worrying about washing it out later. Whether you're rocking big, voluminous curls or a sleek pulled-back look, the only indication of TYMELESS will be how shiny and healthy your hair looks!
Why should I use a hair mask?
Our hair is constantly exposed to various factors that can damage it, such as tight ponytails, frequent heat exposure, and harsh weather conditions. All of these factors can leave your hair feeling dry and brittle.
Incorporating a hydrating hair mask into your hair care routine can help to combat this damage. By providing your hair with the moisture it needs, a hair mask can help to improve its overall health. Hair masks can help your hair to dry faster, maintain curls for longer, and reduce frizz. By incorporating a hair mask into your regular hair care routine, you can help to keep your hair healthy and looking its best.
Our Why
"Your skin, when it's hydrated with water, glows and glistens. Hair is no different. If it's hydrated, it doesn't frizz, dries faster, performs for you, holds curls, and looks shiny! Everything stems from hydration. When I was creating the hair care line, a chemist approached me about a breakthrough science in the skincare industry that could apply to hair care. The goal of TYMELESS was not only to make the hair shine on the surface layer but to actually repair the hair strands, making them less susceptible to elements like humidity, dryness, static, dehydration, and heat exposure. Other shine sprays I used in the past would create a synthetic and weighed-down feeling that would ruin my style and didn't benefit my hair long term. The ability to get the immediate satisfaction of shine, as well as long-term restorative properties in one product, is a huge game-changer!" - TYME CEO, Jacynda Smith.
How to Make Your Curls Last for Days
Read Time: 4 min 16 sec
The dream? Weekend-long curls. To make our long-lasting curl dreams come true, we’re confidently rejecting outdated "old wives' tales" and opting into an intentional styling routine.
Five major factors influence how long your curls last:
Your shower routine
How you dry your hair
Your prep steps
The styling process
Sleep and care
Your Shower Routine
When washing your hair, using the right hair products is crucial to creating a strong foundation. If your products are too heavy, they can weigh down your curls and affect how long they last. That's why we recommend using Pregame Shampoo, a lightweight product that cleanses and nourishes your locks without weighing them down.
On days when you're not washing your hair, use an Uplift Band to pull your hair up to the top of your head to prevent your curls from getting wet. You may also want to wear a shower cap if your hair is shorter or if you need help keeping it dry in the shower.
How to Dry Your Hair
To protect your hair, apply a thermal protectant when it is still 50% wet. The protectant will dry into your cuticles, safeguarding your hair for a longer period and helping your styles last longer. Blow-drying is a significant part of hair care, whether you air dry, diffuse, or go for an all-out blowout. Remember that how you blow-dry your hair affects which styles will work best for you until your next wash day. Learn more about your preferred blow-drying method and how it affects your hairstyle here.
Your Prep Steps
#1 Detangle Your Hair
Starting with untangled hair makes parting sections and curling your hair much easier.
#2 Protection
We highly recommend using Limitless Universal Spray as your prep product. However, using a strong thermal protectant will significantly impact how your curls turn out and how long they last.
The Styling Process
The TYME Iron Pro is designed to create a variety of long-lasting curls with ease. Follow these tips for best results:
Work with Small Sections
When curling your hair with the TYME Iron Pro, use small sections of hair that are shorter than the length of the titanium plates. This ensures that the section stays between the plates while curling.
Brush Each Section
Before curling, brush through each section of hair, even if it's already detangled.
Fan Out Your Hair
Flatten and fan out each section of hair like a sheet of paper to ensure even heating. Proper heating and cooling make a big difference in the longevity of your curls.
Mind Your Speed
The speed at which you curl each section of hair with the iron affects the longevity of your curls. If you go too fast, you'll get a looser curl that only holds for a short time and can create frizz. To avoid this, slow down enough to allow the hair to heat and cool evenly.
The Twirl
Once you have curled a section of hair, use a simple motion to twirl it into the perfect position while it cools. Where your hair cools is where it will stay!
Brushing Through
Whether you're finger brushing, using a wide-tooth comb, or a paddle brush, be confident in combing out your curls! They should be able to withstand brushing!
Securing Your Style
Complete your fresh style by applying hairspray! This final step isn't always necessary, but it is a surefire way to keep your curls intact. Our SelfieTYME Hairspray is formulated with memory resins, so you can confidently brush through your hair, knowing it will stay in shape! If your curls look too relaxed after brushing, you can reshape them by re-twirling them in the same direction as you originally curled them.
Sleep + Care
One of the main places where curls fall flat is in the bedroom. Our own body heat and weight of our heads squish and manipulate our curls overnight. Keep your hair safely up and away with these tricks:
If you have long hair, one way to help your curls last is to pull your hair loosely to the top of your head and secure it lightly with a hair tie.
For any hair length, split your hair down the middle in the back and fan it up and out to the sides for sleeping. This works best if you're a back-sleeper :)
A satin pillowcase causes less friction on the hair and keeps it smoother and less ruffled.
On the second or third day, gently brush through your hair with your fingers or a brush and reshape the curls into place. Touch up the curls if necessary, but most of the time, if you let your hair rest, you will be surprised at how it naturally falls back into the style you created the day before!
Long Lasting MYTHS
The advice we've always heard but maybe isn't always true.
Waiting a day or two to curl your hair:An old-school way of thinking is to curl on dirty hair to get your curls last longer, which means not curling on hair wash day. If we lived this way, a bride couldn't have fresh hair on her wedding day or a senior on prom night. Your products should perform for you to have fresh hair on your big days.
Making tighter curls:With the TYME Iron, you should feel confident in creating the style you are going for without making your curls tighter than you want in fear that your curls won't last long enough. By traveling down the hair strand at a slow, steady pace, you are heating and cooling the curl into place with the curve of the iron, allowing any curl to last for days!
Increasing your curling iron temperature:Do you have to increase your curling iron temperature to positively impact how long your curls last? Typically, the hotter the iron, the longer the curls last, but there is no black-and-white answer. Try curling slowly and steadily before you turn up the heat, and see if that works for your hair needs! You can turn up the heat, but in some cases, you risk your hair's integrity or health. If your curls aren't lasting as long as they should, you can try turning up the heat, but know that if your hair doesn't look shiny after you curl, you may have the heat too high.

The Painless Way To Grow Out Layers, Length, and Bangs
Read Time: 3 min 28 sec
Okay. So, you've been growing out a haircut that you once loved but are now over. You've tried different ways to wear, style, and deal with it, but even though you say every few weeks that you will cut it, you haven't yet.
OR
After leaving your stylist, you may feel like you've lost a few months of growth and that your new haircut will never grow out. Or, you like your length but are tired of your layers or bangs. What should you do?
Growing out short hair, layered hair, or "chemically cut" shorter strands can feel confusing and slow unless you know how to maintain your hair's health properly. On average, hair grows about ¼ to ½ half an inch per month. To speed up the transition, consider these tips:
How to grow out your hair
Growing out your hair takes time. Plain and simple, you can support that growth by caring for your body, scalp, and ends for faster, healthier results.
How do you care for your scalp when growing out your hair?
Remember the old tale of brushing your hair 100 times before bed? They were actually on to something. Stimulating your scalp is a trick as old as time to help hair grow and distribute your natural scalp oils that promote healthy locks. Try massaging your scalp with your hands to relieve any tension while you're watching your favorite show!
Remember: A relaxed scalp is a healthy scalp.
In the shower…Reach for a shampoo brush to work in your shampoo and conditioner while gently stimulating your hair follicles. Try to avoid using your fingernails to lather your product in.
On dry hair…Use a brush that conforms to your scalp! A soft, cushion base to your brush allows the bristles to adapt and conform to your scalp allowing for an incredible scalp massage experience.
How to grow out layers and bangs
How can you keep your ends healthy when growing out layers?
Micro Trims + Dusting Cuts
While trims are great for removing obvious damage on your ends, your stylist will likely cut some of the length of your current style for a neater, more finished look. Micro-trims, on the other hand, are "mini" trims that allow you to remove damage from your ends without losing a lot of length. These trims require more frequent trips than regular trims.
Dusting cuts are less common but have a huge pay-off! During dusting cuts, your stylist will focus on specific areas of your hair that may be more brittle or prone to damage, like your ends and face-framing pieces. Since split ends can pop out anywhere, not just the very bottom of your hair, dusting cuts snip away split ends, flyways, and damaged strands.
Avoiding excess hair damage
To sum up, the drier your hair is, regardless of length, the more challenging it will be to grow. Taking care of your hair's health is the best way to ensure the grow-out process is as quick as possible.
Reach for hydrating styling products to aid in your everyday routines. Products like Limitless Universal Spray are packed with hydration-focused ingredients that will give you essential hold and plump your hair strands. Keeping your hair hydrated and protected is a simple and effective way to prevent damage.
Keep space for a hair mask in your hair care routine. We're adamant about only washing your hair 1-2x per week, so to keep your reaching for that longer wash cycle goal, we suggest using a dry leave-in mask like TYMELESS Repair and Shine Spray.
How to style your hair when growing out your layers
Hiding your layers hack
Curling with tools like the TYME Iron Pro and TYME Iron Air makes hiding layers so easy. Instead of parting your hair with each layer as its own section to curl, part your hair down the center - or your part - and curl from front to back. By curling 1-2-inch vertical sections, you're allowing your layers to smooth and curl with the entire length of the hair strand.
Another easy way to hide or seamlessly blend layers is to draw your curls down. Instead of keeping your iron at a horizontal or rooftop angle near the ends, slowly transition the iron to a vertical angle. BOOM! Hiding layers like a pro.
Get Trendy
Avoid overusing heat to wrangle your layers and bangs, and start playing! Some of our favorite updos are the result of trying to hide layers. Don't be afraid to get creative with trendy pins, claw clips, and headbands to keep you feeling put together, all while keeping your hair healthy! Healthy Hair, Happy Spring: Tips to Fight Frizz
Read Time: 2 min 54 sec
“Embrace the change that comes with the seasons. You may need to change your wash cycle or add an extra finishing step. Your body and hair will let you know where it needs special attention.
Listen to it.” - TYME CEO, Jacynda Smith
Like all routines, how we care for our hair evolves with the seasons. Spring brings on wetter weather which can significantly affect your styles throughout the day. We’re celebrating the boost in hydration and fighting off frizz with these few choice products and styles.
Care for Your Hair
With frequent rain showers in full effect, keeping a consistent routine is tricky. While our instincts may be to reach for the blowdryer or opt for an updo. We have a few tricks to keep your hair feeling and looking its best.
MAX Hydration
Here’s the thing: Hydrated hair holds. Hydrated hair looks healthy. Hydrated hair always performs.
Work with the extra moisture in the air to nail down your optimal hydration level for your hair. Your conditioner may need to sit an additional few minutes in the shower, or you may need to wash less than you think. But your hair is as unique as your personality. You are the only person who can help your hair look and feel its best.
Track your hair’s hydration with these two MAJOR factors between washes:
#1 What does your hair look like? Is it shiny or dull?
Shiny hair is hydrated hair! If your hair looks dull after drying, there are two areas where you may need to change your routine: - Your Wash Make sure your hair is getting ample amounts of hydration in the shower! We suggest really working your shampoo in to ensure your hair is truly clean and ready to take on the hydration of your conditioner. Squeeze excess water out of your hair before applying the conditioner. Let the conditioner soak into your strands for five minutes.
- Your Dry Our #1 blow-drying hack is to spend 80% of your time drying at the root. This section of your hair takes much longer to dry than the rest, and prioritizing this section can prevent drying out your ends. At the end of your blow-dry, your hair should feel cool to the touch and shine! Don’t worry too much if you over-dry. Spritz in some TYMELESS to add a protective layer, and try again next time!
#2 How does your hair feel? Generally speaking, the width and texture of your hair should feel the same at the root and the ends. Your ends will feel slightly different since that hair is older. If your ends feel wire-y or frayed, consider which step of your hair care routine brings that on? Is it right after washing? Immediately after drying? Or after repeated heat styling? Adjust your routine to keep your hair healthy. Incorporating dusting cuts into your salon journey can help you reach your hair goals while keeping your locks fresh!
Fighting Frizz
Frizz is your hair’s way of trying to grab onto every water molecule in the air. (imagine Spongebob in Sandy’s tank) If your hair is hydrated, frizz shouldn’t be an issue! See our hydration tips in the section above and reach for TYMELESS Repair and Shine Spray. This powerful product packs in a ton of vitamins and proteins to protect your hair and nourish it from the inside out.
Damage Control
With wet weather constantly in the mix, Spring brings on more styling sessions than other seasons. Be mindful of how much heat you apply to your hair and whether your blow-drying sessions set you up for longer-lasting hair. (Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.) Here are a few trusted tips to prevent damage throughout Spring:
Brush through your hair by detangling the ends first.
Always use a thermal protectant!
Your blow-dry CAN be a style. (Read the blog)
Use a lower heat setting on your irons when styling.
If a curl doesn’t turn out the way you want, let it cool completely before going back in with heat.
Dusting cuts can prevent split-end growth.
Always use a thermal protectant!
A dry spray leave-in mask is a game-changing habit.

TYME Tutorials: Ocean Waves
Read Time 1 min 53 sec
Move-over stamp and repeat barrel wavers. We took on the challenge of creating these organic beach waves with the TYME Iron Pro and TYME Iron Air - and we’re obsessed with the results.
Tools for this look:
TYME Iron Pro or TYME Iron Air
Limitless Universal Spray
Paddle Brush
Prep Work
Thermal protection is always a must! Add a healthy dose of Limitless Universal Spray before styling and brush it through the length of your hair for even protection. Keep your bottle of Limitless nearby after prepping. You’ll use it again! ;)
This Ocean Waves hairstyle is best created on fully detangled hair, so take an extra minute to make sure your mane is ready!
Creating an Ocean Wave
Unlike most TYME Iron tutorials, we started this three-barrel-inspired with our bottom layers of hair and worked our way up. Traditionally we style small vertical sections of hair, but found it easier to create our desired look with horizontal sections. You don’t have to section off your hair, but if it makes learning this style easier, grab your Uplift Bands and section away!
Notice the straightening side of the TYME Iron Pro? The one with open plates? This is the side you will be using to create Ocean Waves. Your thumb should remain behind the power button, but you’ll hold the iron at a horizontal angle.
The Rocking Motion
Similar to the Rocker Waves hairstyle, you create triple barrel waves (or Ocean Waves, as we like to call them) by moving the iron back and forth as you travel down the section of hair. To create these big waves, make a significant turn toward and away from you. Use your bottom pieces as a practice section to nail down the technique.
Pro-Tips:
#1 The rocking motion should be fluid and happen at the same time you’re traveling down the hair.
#2 Unlike traditional wavers, the TYME Irons let you control the size of your wave. Change the amount you’re rotating toward and away from yourself to change the size of your waves.
Once you’ve worked your way up, we suggest finishing your face-framing pieces with a soft bend. Use the TYME Iron Pro in the traditional curling grip and just barely rotate your wrist as you push toward your mirror.
Common Mistake: Don’t pause or squeeze too hard when rocking your iron! This can create creases in your hair. The rocking motion should be fluid.
Finishing the Style
Grab that bottle of Limitless Universal Spray you left out, and let’s put its mousse capabilities to work! Spray a healthy dose of Limitless in your palms, then rub your hands together until you feel the formula start to get sticky. Once it is sticky, gently scrunch Limitless into your hair for a more texture for a lived-in look. Limitless will help lock in your style, so no hair spray is needed, but always welcome ;)

A Dynamic Duo: BlowTYME + Triangle Brush
Read Time: 2 min 9 sec
The TYME Launch of the Triangle Brush in 2017, turned some heads. Making round shapes with a triangular brush seemed impossible, but that's our thing: making the impossible entirely possible.
"I created the TYME Triangle Brush to help women grab their hair from the root for voluminous looks. The non-slip grip makes it easy to hold and use on yourself or others. Unlike some other brushes, this brush doesn't need boar bristles. The triangular shape of this brush creates natural tensions so it can pick up even the shortest and finest of hairs." - TYME CEO Jacynda Smith.
We're expanding the beauty industry's geometric possibilities with the triangle brush ;) This little three-sided wonder puts salon detailing into your at-home blowout by giving users complete control over the outcome. With the proper airflow distribution, the Triangle Brush creates strategically placed bends precisely where you want them and even takes your blowouts from big and voluminous to soft and beachy.
Matching that styling capability with a top-tier hair dryer brought these styles to another level. The BlowTYME Hair Dryer and Triangle Brush bring movement and serious volume to unsuspecting hair types and lengths.
For Pixie Cuts
With short haircuts trending, the triangle brush lends itself to organic-feeling blowouts and incredible-looking hair on day one. Get more volume and dimension in your cut using the Triangle Brush instead of a round brush.
For Curtain Bangs

We're sure you're aware, but the glory of a curtain bang starts with the bend. Curtain bangs open up your favorite feature of your face, so getting the perfect bend is critical. The Triangle Brush and BlowTYME Hair Dryer duo work to not only perfectly place your curtain bang bend, but the cool-shot feature helps lock that bend into place.
For Volume at the Root
Fine-haired ladies, this is your sign that Triangle Brush needs to be added to your list of go-to tools. While round brushes are great for building body throughout the bulk of your hair, the Triangle Brush exceeds expectations at the root. Use the bristles to grab your locks right at the root and a point of the triangle to create tension for your blow dryer to lock into place.

Whether it's baby hair, sleeping too hard, or going hard in the gym, our face-framing pieces need a little refresher on day two+. Use the Triangle Brush to grab onto those hairs, and use your blowdryer to tame these pieces so you can feel your best and keep your hairstyle thriving throughout the week.
How to use the dynamic duo on different hair types:
Curly Hair
Use the Triangle Brush + BlowTYME Hair Dryer on blowout days to quickly smooth your hair right at the roots. OR smooth out your baby hairs before laying your edges.
Wavy Hair
Enhance a few of your natural waves by strategically placing a few extra bends throughout your hair.
Straight Hair
Give your face-framing pieces a lived-in look with a soft bend near your cheeks.
Short Hair
Who said blowouts were for long hair? You've just unlocked a new style opportunity!

How Your Blowdrying Method is Affecting Your Hairstyle
Read Time: 2 min 16 sec
Blowdrying is a HUGE part of hair care. Whether you air dry, diffuse, or go for an all-out blowout, there is one core note to remember when it comes to drying:
How you blow dry your hair influences what styles will perform best for you until your next wash day.
Diffusing
Your curls are going to look their best! Are you still able to straighten or curl? Totally, but if a straight look is your goal, giving yourself a blowout will be your easiest step to achieving that straight look. And you should let your curls have their moment for a few days if you're going to put in the work to diffuse them!

Pull the smoothed pieces tight (like a hair headband) and secure them together by the nape of your neck. Apply Limitless to smooth the front section and for a light hold.
Blowdrying with a concentrator + brush
This is the best combo for getting a great blowout look to last for days and really be able to control the detail in your blowout! This method will give you sleeker, straighter hair, ideal for straightening or curling. With this drying method, it may be difficult reviving natural curls until your next wash.

The BlowBrush is a great all-in-one tool! If you are looking for a refined blow dry style or achieving a fast power dry, it's all possible with the BlowBrush. It's also a perfect tool if you struggle with the brush and dryer combo!

Air Drying
Air drying is an easy solution! Make sure you're still prepping your hair with a product, like Limitless Universal Spray, that will help support future styling. If you plan to sleep on wet hair, a good thing to remember is "where hair dries is where it stays." Sleeping on damp hair may cause more chaos to tackle in the morning.
