Top 4 Elements of 2019 Haircuts:
  1. Curtain bangs
  2. Silhouette is more of a square
  3. Less weight at the bottom, which avoids the look of a triangle
  4. Movement created by layers and the way you style

Don’t freak out if you don’t know what any of this means, or how to get there, we will break it down for you!

2019 is all about bringing the volume up with bobs, bangs, and layers. In this part of the series, we will break down how to rock layers versus repeating the way they were worn in the past. The last few years, the trend in hair was to have weight at the bottom of the style, creating a “triangle” in the cut and shape. In 2019 the trend is changing to have more layers starting higher which gets rid of the bulk of weight at the bottom of your cut, creating a square in the shape and lighter feel at the bottom.

Face frame pieces were starting chin length and lower layers were close to the perimeter. Now it’s about framing the eyes. The perimeter, or bottom of the cut, was left very heavy. When all the weight lives near the bottom of the hair, the shape of the hair tends to stack heavy at the bottom creating a triangle effect, this pulled all the attention down.

Now, layers are coming up higher which is changing the shape of the cut to a square. This has an overall lightening effect on the weight of the hair and the shape of the silhouette. The silhouette becomes more of a square look and draws the attention up giving more attention to the eyes and cheekbones.

The Silhouette Becomes more Squared

In longer cuts, the weight gets distributed over a bigger surface area creating more of a rectangle and all the layers redistribute the weight from the perimeter. Creating more layers in the hair allows for more movement in the style.

Changing the Triangle Shape

To change from the triangle shape think of removing weight from the bottom and bringing volume up! The style will naturally have more movement and body up higher in the square shape so make sure you take advantage of the volume you can create up around the eyes.

Curtain bangs

Curtain bangs create a frame for the eyes adding them to your style will play up the eyes. They say the eyes are the window to the soul so now you’ll have curtains to decorate the window of the soul ;)

Movement Created by Layers & Styling

You can create more movement through lifting and spraying BigTYME Root Lift Powder throughout to build more texture in the look, or you can create movement or curls in the look with the TYME Iron giving the look a more organic feel. In 2019 get those flirty eyes ready because they are going to get a lot more attention.
