Frequently asked questions
Which TYME iron is best for me?
Start with the look you want rather than with your hair type. The 1.25 inch gives ringlet curls or beachy waves, decided by how you angle and rotate it. The 2 inch is not really a curl iron: it puts volume and movement into the hair. Both of those work on any hair type and any length. The Iron Pro and the Iron Air are the two that straighten as well as curl, and both are at their best on medium to coarse hair up to bra strap length. If your hair is longer than bra strap, we recommend the 1.25 inch or the 2 inch, even if you want to straighten. The thirty second quiz will tell you which one to buy.
What is the difference between the TYME Iron Pro and the Iron Air?
Both curl and straighten with one tool, and both are at their best on medium to coarse hair up to bra strap length. The Iron Pro has titanium plates and five heat settings from 300F to 400F, and it is the faster of the two at straightening. The Iron Air has ceramic plates and cool air vents: heat shapes the section and a burst of cool air sets it in the same movement, which is the same principle as holding a curl in your hand until it cools. It also has the widest heat range of any TYME iron, 280F to 430F.
The Iron Air does not dry hair. It is used on dry hair, like every other iron in the range. The cool air sets a style, it does not replace a dryer.
What size curling iron should I buy, 1.25 inch or 2 inch?
Barrel size sets the result, not your hair type. Both work on any hair type and any length. The 1.25 inch gives you ringlet curls or beachy waves depending on technique. The 2 inch is for volume and movement rather than defined curls, which is what you want if your hair falls flat. Both have PTC ceramic plates, four heat settings from 300F to 400F, heat up in about 30 seconds, and come in Cashmere and Caviar at $149.99.
Does hair length matter?
Only for two of the four. The 1.25 inch and the 2 inch curling irons work at any length. The Iron Pro and the Iron Air are at their best on hair up to bra strap length and get harder to use the longer the hair is, so for hair longer than bra strap we recommend the 1.25 inch or the 2 inch instead.
Who designs TYME irons?
Licensed hair stylists, in both eras of the company. Jacynda Smith founded TYME and designed the original iron. Lauren Ashtyn owns TYME today and designed the 1.25 inch and 2 inch irons herself. Lauren Ashtyn grew up in her mother's salons and has spent years behind the chair, and every iron is tested in a working salon before it reaches a customer.
What colours do TYME irons come in?
The 1.25 inch and 2 inch curling irons come in Cashmere, a soft warm neutral, and Caviar, a deep black. The Iron Pro comes in Cashmere and Rose gold. The Iron Air comes in Cashmere. Pick the colour on the product page.
Do TYME irons work on all hair types?
Yes. Every TYME iron works on every texture, every density and every ethnicity of hair. What changes is the heat setting and the section size, and there is no chart for that. Start on the lowest setting, whatever your hair is like, try a section, and turn it up one only if the style does not hold. Before reaching for more heat, check the other three things first: let the curl cool completely before you touch it, keep your products light, and take smaller sections.
Are TYME irons dual voltage?
Yes. TYME irons run on both 110 to 120v and 220 to 240v, so they work anywhere in the world. You will need a plug adapter for the socket shape in the country you are in, but not a voltage converter.
How long does a TYME iron take to heat up?
The 1.25 inch and 2 inch curling irons are ready in about 30 seconds. The Iron Pro and the Iron Air take about 50 seconds. Give it the full heat up before the first pass. An iron that has not finished heating is the most common reason a curl drops within the hour.
What is the return policy on TYME irons?
We accept returns and exchanges for 7 days. Contact us within 7 days of delivery and send the iron back in the same condition it reached you, with everything in the original box. Opened and used tools are accepted inside that window. A flat $20 restocking fee applies to refunds and exchanges alike, and return shipping is paid by you.
How do I keep the plates in good condition?
Wipe the iron down with a damp microfiber cloth once it is completely cool. Never spray product directly onto the plates, and let heat protectant dry before you clamp.
Still deciding? Take the thirty second quiz, or compare all four irons side by side. Both are free.
