The TYMEless Promise
This page is under review and is not a current offer. It does not apply to any purchase. The one highlighted date is filled in on the day the new site goes live.
Buying a styling iron you have never held, to use on hair you cannot afford to damage, takes a certain amount of faith. This is what we put on our side of that.
Open it, use it, and send it back if it is not the one.
If it fails on us in the first year, we put it right.
Every TYME iron is drawn up and tested by a licensed stylist.
One. Seven days to change your mind
You cannot really tell whether a curling iron suits your hair without curling your hair with it. So try it. You have 7 days from delivery to ask for a refund or an exchange, opened or not.
It has to come back in the same condition it left us in, which is new, with everything that came with it back in the original box. If it comes back scratched, marked or dirty we reserve the right to refuse it. There is a flat $20 restocking fee on refunds and exchanges alike, and return shipping is yours.
The full returns and exchanges terms are here.
Two. One year covered
First, if it arrives faulty: tell us within 24 hours
Open your iron and plug it in as soon as it arrives. If it is damaged or it does not work, email us within 24 hours of delivery with a photo or a short video and we will send a replacement. No restocking fee, no postage for you to pay, no argument.
That is the fastest and cheapest route for both of us, which is why the window is short. If you miss it, you are not stuck. A manufacturing fault is still covered by the one year warranty below, on the terms set out there.
The Limited TYME Warranty
TYME warrants that each iron listed below will be free from defects in materials and workmanship, under normal personal use, for one year from the date of purchase.
Covered irons: the TYME 1.25 Inch Curling Iron, the TYME 2 Inch Curling Iron, the TYME Iron Pro and the TYME Iron Air.
This applies to irons purchased on or after [SITE LAUNCH DATE] from tymestyle.com or from an official TYME storefront. It does not apply to purchases made before that date.
If your iron was a gift
You are covered too. We just need the original purchaser's name, email address, phone number and order number so we can match it to the order in our records. A $149.99 iron is a lovely present and we would rather cover it than argue about whose name is on the receipt.
What we will do
If your iron has a covered defect, we will, at our option, either send you a replacement part, repair the iron, or replace it.
Many faults come down to a single component, and where a part fixes it we will send you the part with instructions. It is faster for you than posting an iron back and forward.
A few things so there are no surprises. A replacement may be new or reconditioned. A replacement carries the remainder of your original year, it does not start a fresh twelve months. This covers repair or replacement, not refunds. There is one claim per customer in any twelve month period, and one claim per iron. And if we replace an iron and you have sent the old one back, the old one becomes ours.
What is not covered
- Scratches, marks or discolouration on the plates or the housing. There is more on this below
- Drops, impacts and crushing
- Water damage, or any immersion
- Cord damage from wrapping the cord around a hot barrel, which is the most common avoidable failure on any hot tool
- Product sprayed directly onto the plates, or build up from letting product dry on them
- Use with a voltage converter. TYME irons are dual voltage and need a plug adapter for the socket shape, not a converter
- Repairs, modifications or disassembly by anyone other than TYME
- Normal wear
- Commercial or salon use. This is for personal household use
- Irons bought from any seller other than tymestyle.com or an official TYME storefront, including counterfeit irons
- Lost or stolen irons
- Postage to send an iron back to us
- A second claim on an iron that has already been repaired or replaced, or a second claim by the same customer inside twelve months
About scratched or discoloured plates
We do not repair or replace irons for scratched or discoloured plates.
Plates leave us clean and unmarked. Marking and discolouration happen in use, and almost always from one of four things: product sprayed directly onto the plates, product left to dry on them, wiping the plates while they are still hot, or resting the iron on something that marks them. None of those stop the iron working, and none of them are defects in the tool.
Keeping them clean is simple. Let the iron cool completely, then wipe the plates with a damp microfibre cloth. Never spray anything directly onto them, and let heat protectant dry on the hair before you clamp.
If your iron arrives with a marked plate, that is a different thing. Email us within 24 hours of delivery with a photo, the same as anything else that arrives wrong, and we will take care of it.
How to make a claim
Email hello@tymestyle.com with:
- Your order number, or the original purchaser's name, email, phone number and order number if the iron was a gift
- A photo, or a short video, showing the fault
- A sentence on what happens when you use it
Tell us within 30 days of first noticing the fault, and inside your warranty year. Carrying on with an iron that is not working properly can turn a small fault into a bigger one, and we can only cover the fault as it was when you found it.
How we assess a claim
We review every claim on the photographs, the video, and where we ask for it, the iron itself. TYME decides whether a fault is a defect in manufacturing, and we reserve the right to decline any claim that is not. Damage caused by an accident, by misuse, or by anything on the list above is not a manufacturing fault and will not be replaced.
If we do decline a claim we will tell you plainly why, and where a part can fix it we will tell you how to buy one.
We may ask you to try one or two things first, usually letting it reach full heat or checking the setting, because a surprising number of faults turn out not to be faults.
How long it takes
We aim to come back to you within 3 to 4 business days.
During our busiest weeks, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the run up to Christmas, it can be a couple of business days longer. That is partly the volume of orders and partly that our team takes the holidays off with their families, which we are not going to apologise for.
If we do not hear back from you
If we ask you for more information, or for the iron back, and we have not heard from you within 14 days, we will close the claim.
Who pays the postage
On a fault reported inside 24 hours of delivery, nothing. We cover it both ways.
After that, if we ask you to send the iron back to us, that postage is yours to cover. We cover the postage on whatever we send out to you, whether that is a part or a replacement iron. In many cases we will not need the old one back at all, and a photo or video is enough.
It does not cover counterfeits
There are fake TYME irons being sold online, some for under $30. We cannot warranty a tool we did not make. If you are not sure whether yours is genuine, here is how to tell.
Three. Designed by stylists, not engineers
This one is not a policy. It is the reason the other two are affordable to offer.
Every TYME iron was drawn up by a licensed hair stylist. Jacynda Smith, a cosmetologist, designed the original iron from 2012 and launched it in 2014. Lauren Ashtyn owns TYME today, grew up in her mother's salons, has spent years behind the chair, and designed the 1.25 inch and the 2 inch herself. Every iron is tested in a working salon before it reaches a customer.
That is why we are comfortable telling you the 2 inch is not really a curl iron, or that if your hair is past bra strap length you should skip the Iron Pro and take a curling iron instead. We would rather sell you the right one than the expensive one.
Take the thirty second quiz or compare all four irons.
We reserve the right to decline claims where there is a pattern of repeat claims from the same customer, email address or delivery address. We may make an exception to the one claim limit at our discretion, but we are not obliged to.
The one year cover described above is a Limited Warranty. Any implied warranties, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, are limited to the one year duration of this written warranty. TYME is not liable for any incidental or consequential damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, a TYME iron. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, or the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
This warranty covers irons purchased and delivered in the United States.
