The name misleads people, so it is worth being plain: the TYME 2 inch is not built for curls. It is built to give you blowout hair. The kind you walk out of the salon with, where the hair has volume at the root, swing through the length and movement that holds for days.

If your hair hangs flat and you want it to move, this is the iron. If you want a defined curl, take the 1.25 inch instead. It works on any hair type, any texture and any ethnicity of hair.

Features

  • PTC ceramic plates, ready in about 30 seconds
  • Four heat settings: 300F, 350F, 375F and 400F
  • Negative ions to cut frizz and static
  • 360 degree swivel cord
  • Automatic shut off after 30 minutes of no use
  • Dual voltage, 120v to 240v, 135W
  • Cashmere or Caviar

It adds volume. It does not straighten.

For straight hair you want the Iron Pro or the Iron Air, the only two TYME irons that straighten.

Start on the lowest heat setting

Whatever your hair is like. Try a section. If the shape holds, that is your setting. If it drops, turn it up one and stop as soon as it holds. Every texture and every density needs something different, which is exactly why there are four settings rather than one temperature. You can always add heat; you cannot take it back out of the hair.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a salon blowout at home with it?

That is exactly what it is for. A blowout is volume at the root and movement through the length, and the 2 inch puts both in without a round brush and a dryer in each hand. Start the iron close to the root, lift the section up and away from the head, and let it cool in that raised position before you drop it.

Does the 2 inch make curls?

Not defined ones, and that is by design. It shapes hair into soft bends and lifts it at the root. For ringlets or beachy waves, the 1.25 inch is the tool.

What is it actually for, then?

Blowout hair. Volume and movement. Hair that sits flat against the head, or hangs straight down with no shape in it, is what the 2 inch fixes.

What hair type is it for?

Any. Fine, medium or coarse, and every texture and every ethnicity of hair.

Does it straighten?

No. Only the Iron Pro and the Iron Air straighten.

2 inch or 1.25 inch?

The 2 inch for blowout volume and movement. The 1.25 inch for ringlets or beachy waves. They are genuinely different jobs, which is why the Size Matters Bundle exists. The quiz will point you at the right one.

How long does a blowout from it last?

Days rather than hours on most hair, as long as you let each section cool completely before you touch it and keep your products light. Heavy oils and creams weigh the root down and the volume goes first.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to heat up?

The 1.25 inch and 2 inch curling irons are ready in about 30 seconds. The Iron Pro and the Iron Air take about 50 seconds. Give it the full heat up before the first pass: an iron that has not finished heating is the most common reason a curl drops within the hour.

What heat setting should I use?

Start on the lowest one, whatever your hair is like. Try a section. If the style holds, that is your setting. If it drops, turn it up one and stop as soon as it holds. Every texture and every density needs something different, which is exactly why there is a range rather than a single temperature. Before reaching for more heat, check the other three things: let the curl cool completely before you touch it, keep your products light, and take smaller sections.

Will this work on my hair type?

Every TYME iron works on every texture and every ethnicity of hair. The 1.25 inch and 2 inch curling irons suit any hair type and any length, so choose between them by the look you want: ringlets and beachy waves from the 1.25 inch, volume and movement from the 2 inch. The Iron Pro and the Iron Air are the two that straighten as well as curl, and both are at their best on medium to coarse hair up to bra strap length.

Length is the one thing that narrows the choice. If your hair is longer than bra strap, we recommend the 1.25 inch or the 2 inch, even if you want to straighten, because the Iron Pro and the Iron Air get harder to use the longer the hair is. The thirty second quiz will tell you which.

Can I use it abroad?

Yes. TYME irons are dual voltage, so they run on both 110 to 120v and 220 to 240v. You will need a plug adapter for the socket shape, not a voltage converter.

What if it is not right for me?

We accept returns and exchanges for 7 days. Contact us within 7 days of delivery and send the item back in the same condition it reached you, with everything in the original box. A flat $20 restocking fee applies to refunds and exchanges alike, and return shipping is paid by you.

How do I keep the plates in good condition?

Wipe the iron down with a damp microfibre cloth once it is completely cool. Never spray product directly onto the plates, and let heat protectant dry before you clamp.
