How to Create Beach Waves on Any Hair Length
Finally, the seasons are changing from winter to spring which is inspiring us to create all the beach wave styles! We love the effortless look of beach waves on short, medium, and long hair. This is also a style you can create if you have fine or coarse hair! In this post, we’ll cover all the common elements regardless of hair type or length to create your dreamy, beachy style and give you tips for your specific hair type and length!
Scroll to the bottom of the post for video tutorials for short and long hair.
Regardless of hair length, there are similarities on how this look is created. It is important to make sure your hair is prepped for heating with a thermal protectant and brushed out for even heating.
Here are the step-by-step instructions no matter what hair type you have:
One: Start with towel-dried hair and apply Limitless Universal Spray in damp hair to create grip and hold and to show definition in curls.
Two: Brush through hair and air dry or blow dry, whichever you prefer.
Three: Take big, vertical sections and make loose undefined curls. (If you’re looking for a basic how-to for the TYME Iron, click here.)
Four: Alternate curls for a more disheveled look.
Five: Leave out a couple of inches at the ends. This is the #1 difference between regular curls and beach waves!
Six: If your curls ended up too curly, tug on curls after they're formed to loosen while the hair strand is still warm.
Seven: Don’t be afraid to vary the curl by changing angles.
Eight: Lift sections and spray SelfieTYME Hairspray to create a shattered look.
Tips:
For short hair leave the underneath section untouched.
For long hair, start with the TYME Iron Pro in a horizontal position and switch to a more vertical position as you get closer to the ends to draw down the curl to keep it lean at the bottom.
When drawing down the curl, don’t rotate the iron.
Holding the iron vertically makes a more tunneled curl.
Holding the iron horizontally makes a more open curl.
We would love to see the beach waves you create! Share your photos on Instagram and tag us @tymeiron. For more tips and hair tutorials, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest.
International Women's Day: Survey Says Women Feel Empowered By Having Good Hair
Happy International Women’s Day 2019! Here at TYME, we are on a mission to empower all women to take their vision of beauty into their own hands. To provide women with the tools and resources to achieve the looks they want and not the ideals pushed onto them – without spending hours in front of the mirror. Because we shouldn’t have to sacrifice our dreams in order to look good. And in honor of International Women’s Day, we took the theme of #BalanceforBetter to heart and wanted to explore the connection between how women viewed beauty and success and the role our hair played as part of our identity. In conjunction with YouGov, we surveyed 680 U.S. women and uncovered how women felt about their hair at work, at home, and in their love life. And we were floored by what we found. 29 percent of women reported feeling empowered by having good hair. Whether air-dried or styled by hot tools, we at TYME set out to create products to help women achieve the style they want and in less time. Especially because… 20 percent of women reported crying over a haircut they didn’t like. And...
1 in 6 women would be embarrassed to go out in public if there’s something wrong with their hair
1 in 10 saying a bad hair day would keep them from going out with friends
And over 1 in 3 avoiding being in pictures because of a bad hair day
We want women to be confident so they can participate in their lives! Here are some key findings from the study, Confidence is in Style: Our hair has a big ‘role’ in the workplace For so long, women have been placed into two buckets – smart or beautiful. But in 2019, we want (and deserve!) to have our cake and eat it, too. Us modern women are gorgeous self-starters who aren’t looking to compromise, but rather have it all. That said, many of us live by the saying, “if you look good, you feel good” and it’s true – our outward appearance can have a positive psychological impact on our confidence and self-esteem levels and our inner confidence radiates out. Hair is one of the main ingredients to our identity – in fact over half of U.S. women (56%) said that being happy about their hair increases their self-esteem or that good hair makes them feel more positive about their day. But in the workplace, where we build our professional identity, this self-esteem is too often thrown off, impacting our performance and results in a way that we should never allow:
1 in 7 women have received a negative comment about their hair either at their workplace, from a co-worker or from a boss or manager
Nearly a quarter of women report their confidence decreases on days they’re unhappy with their hair. Lack of confidence at work can impact the way people present themselves, take initiative and perform on various tasks
1 in 5 agree good hair can add credibility to a person, and in the workplace, credibility is one element that can attribute to others’ impressions
1 in 20 have even spent extra money to fix their hair at work, while another 1 in 20 would decide to cancel a job interview because of a bad hair day
This in mind, feeling good about your appearance and having a positive outlook on any given day goes a long way in the workplace, truly bringing to life that, “if you look good, you feel good” mentality. In fact, a quarter (25%) of women report feeling more productive on good hair days. As advocates for the modern woman, it’s essential that we take ownership in a professional environment whether we are a boss, manager or coworker, this International Women’s Day, and every day. How to Mentally Reset There’s nothing worse than feeling off or down – especially at work. Wherever you show up, it’s important to make sure you are the best version of yourself. When you are your best self, you perform better, you’re more confident and you’re overall happier. But when those moments occur, here’s a quick fix to shake off the bad vibes – take a deep breath and try to clear your head of all thoughts. Like a mental delete button, shuffle all thoughts out until there is peace. Do this for five minutes. By mentally resetting, you’ll feel more prepared to take on situations you’re not prepared for. You’ll be confident because you are truly starting fresh without insecurities. The Pop Culture Beauty Balance Work may be a more unexpected place that hangs in the balance between how we look and feel, but pop culture is a much more obvious place that sets the definition of beauty and success. As we approach this International Women’s Day, many may claim society is more enlightened and supportive of women than before, however:
Only 10 percent of women think media and pop culture representations of women are more realistic today than 5 years ago
Only 7 percent think media represents a realistic depiction of women’s hair
Just 13 percent admire current representation of women’s hair they see in pop culture
And a mere 7 percent feel positive about the perceptions of beauty in media and pop culture
With positive feelings about beauty representations in pop culture and media so low, and 22 percent of women saying hair is one of the first things they notice about models, it’s important that we create realistic ideals that we are instilling in women. It’s important to create a balance between aspirational and achievable, and advocate for women to strive to find that balance instead of having unrealistic expectations!
Be Your Own Piece of the Puzzle With social media being a huge part of our everyday lives, and a source for endless inspiration, others naturally influence our decisions. But Instagram is not always what meets the eye. Extensions can cause a lot of damage and photoshop has a lot of tricks. Be yourself and embrace what you have – be your own piece of the puzzle not a copy of someone else’s. And while we can’t escape from mindless scrolling (we’re all guilty of that!), fill your feed with women achieving the unachievable. Now that is something to get inspired by. We get lost in a captured moment which can be captivating and inspiring, now reset and focus on being your piece. How do you apply that inspiration to be the best you you can be? How Loved Ones Can Make or Break Our Hair Identity… And How to Stop It We have the biggest impact on our thoughts, feelings and decisions and next are the people closest to us: loved ones. If they believe we can do and be anything, generally, we do too. But the opposite can be true as well. In fact, when it comes to hair:
39 percent of women have received a negative comment about their hair from a family member
1 in 6 women (16%) have received a negative comment about their hair from their significant other and
Moreover, roughly 1 in 8 (13%) agree that negative opinions have indeed prompted them to change or fix their hair and
Another 1 in 8 (13%) report things their significant other has said made them change their hair
Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference
Feeling down about your hair and don’t know where to start? Changing something small, such as where you part your hair, feels minor but can make all the difference – without even getting a haircut. And the benefits are substantial: immediate volume and can help your overall hair growth pattern. At the end of it all, only you can choose which comments you let affect you and you are the biggest influencer in your life, so if something resonates with you take action and move forward with confidence! Date Night Hair How-To: Flirty Half-Ponytail
Need some hair inspo for your next date night?! We've got you covered with this fun, flirty half-ponytail you can wear for your next night out with the girls or that special someone. ❤️
Using a paddle brush, brush the top section of hair from above the ears to the crown of your head back, and tie off with an elastic. The thicker the elastic, the more height you can get.
You’ll want the top section to be secured tightly, so the hair will be lifted off your scalp and have more volume.
Grab a piece of hair from the bottom of your top section within the elastic and wrap around your elastic to hide elastic and lift your half-pony.
Use a bobby pin to secure wrapped hair underneath your top section, pinning into the direction of the top section.
Tighten, shape, and lift your half-pony style.
Using the TYME Iron Pro, pop in a few curls until you achieve desired look.
Using BigTYME Root Lift Powder, spray top section and throughout the rest of your hair for added volume and texture. Spraying underneath the pony and “padding” underneath your hair using your fingers will give it more fullness. Padding is like teasing or backcombing, but a softer version, using root lift powder and your fingers.
Adjust curls and place all hair where desired before using SelfieTYME Hairspray.
Using SelfieTYME Hairspray, spray any baby hairs or flyaways in top section and use the side of the can to smooth it out.
Spray throughout the rest of the style as desired. Remember, this hairspray is buildable!

How to Keep the Moisture in Your Hair When Heat Styling
If you are experiencing a burnt hair smell when heat styling, you are likely pulling too much moisture from your hair. Here are a few causes and some tips on how to prevent that burnt hair smell:
Over-drying your hair- When you dry your hair properly it will be laying smooth and will maintain its shine. You don’t want to curl or straighten your hair when it is damp though, either:) Some signs that your hair is being overdried are, for example, if you think of a leaf and how it gets brittle. When a leaf is healthy and hydrated, it feels nourished and not brittle. It is shiny and not dull. It happens in much the same way if you think of your scalp as being the stem, the closer to the stem, the more hydrated it is. The ends, or the further from the “stem,” the easier it gets dry and dehydrated. It helps to dry the top half of your hair first so you aren’t over-drying the ends.
Your shampoo and conditioner routine not restoring moisture- Pregame Shampoo and Showoff Conditioner, or the Power Couple, which we like to call it, are sulfate-free and use less surfactants which is more gentle on your hair. Our approach to hydrating your hair is to keep the cuticle layer healthy, which locks in your hair’s moisture and keeps each strand strong.
Using the right type, and right amount of thermal protectant can sometimes help if everything else is good. Upstaged Thermal Protectantprotects hair up to 300C or 572F. It can be applied to damp hair before blow drying or to dry hair before curling. Distribute through your hair and allow to dry before curling or straightening.
Using too high of heat for your hair type- If you have a styling tool with an adjustable temperature setting, use the lowest temp for your hair type which still allows you to get the result you are looking for.
Going too slow while curling- There is a fine line between going too fast or too slow. If you glide down the hair strand too fast, you are going to shock the cuticle and cause frizz, but if you are traveling too slow down the hair strand, you can cause damage by overheating your hair which will remove too much moisture from your hair.
Using too much tension or pressure when you curl- When you use too much tension, or squeeze the iron too tightly, you are causing too much stress on your hair.
Using an oil before you curl- If you use any oils on your hair, they should be applied after you straighten or curl.

How-To: 7 Simple Steps To The Perfect Blowout Hairstyle - Part 2
In Part 1 we taught you how to get the most out of your blowout while keeping your hair healthy in the process. Here in Part 2, we have 7 more tips & tricks for your DIY blowout!
Round Brush Tips: If you blow the heat behind the brush (as you travel down the strand) and create a valley, you will create collapse or make the hair more lean. If you blow dry in the middle/ front of the brush, the hair then runs over the big round part allowing hair to cool in a more full, rounded shape. Items pictured: BlowTYME Hair Dryer and TYME 3-inch Round Hair Brush
Fragile Hair Tips: If you have fine, bleached, or processed hair, the lower the heat and air pressure the better! You can get a lot of bang for your buck out of a lower and cooler setting if you are using the right technique. When you have fragile hair, you can really focus on a good blow dry and then you won’t have to expose your hair to other heat tools until the hair is healthy and less fragile. Remember to keep the shine in your hair to help restore health!
Wavy Hair Tips: In general, medium to high heat works better to reset a shape depending on your skill set with the dryer and the health of your hair. The key is to be precise about your movements and know where to aim your blow dryer in relation to your brush giving your hair the appropriate combination of drying, heating, and cooling! You can also enhance your curl using a diffuser. The diffuser is all about getting the hair in place and drying it with the least amount of movement. The more you move the blow dryer, the more disrupted the curl looks. You can use the diffuser to achieve a less controlled or more controlled curl depending on the look you are going for.
Tips on Tension: The right amount of tension is your friend--you don’t need to have the tension so tight it pulls or tugs, but you do want to have the hair taught on the brush (straight, but not pulling). The more curly your hair is, the more you have to focus on sectioning so you can get close to the scalp to reset the shape from the top of the strand all the way down.
Drying- moisture is what causes natural curl to shape, so if you leave too much moisture in your hair, the natural curl will not reshape or will return to natural curl faster
Heating- if the hair is closer to dry and still has natural curl/wave, you may need to utilize the heat from your blow dryer to reshape the hair
Cooling- Remember--where hair cools is where it stays! The cool shot was invented so that after you heat the hair on a brush, you can then cool it to take on that shape faster. If you love the way a piece is looking when it is warm, allow it to cool in that shape by not displacing it from that shape.

TYME: The New Approach to Hair Care
You deserve to be given back your most coveted asset, your TYME! With this new approach to hair care, you can wash your hair less and have it perform better. Leave the old system behind and make life easy by starting with a great foundation! We’ve all been there. Buying product after product to help fix a certain hair “problem.” You buy shampoo to make your hair feel soft, but then it gets too soft so you need something that will add more texture. Then your hair feels dull so you buy a shampoo to add shine, but then it looks greasy. Eventually, you need a clarifying shampoo to remove all the waxes and coatings that are left on your hair from all the different shampoos, conditioners and styling products. Not to mention you now have a million different bottles cluttering up your shower and cabinets. There has to be a better way, right?! So here at TYME, we set out to make a shampoo and conditioner that can perform for ALL hair types. The manufacturer wasn’t limited on what price point or ingredients to be used and had never been told to create a shampoo and conditioner that was formulated for hair performance AND to be more concentrated, so you don’t have to use as much as you would with traditional shampoo and conditioner. Jacynda, the TYME creator, started thinking about all of the things she wanted to fix about the other options on the market. Some of the hair challenges Jacynda wanted to fix:
Needing a bunch of different products which creates clutter and makes it more complicated and more expensive.
Needing different shampoos and conditioners in one shower for different hair types.
Having to shampoo every day.
Reading the label to know which product is which. We’ve all been there and accidentally put the conditioner on first! ;) Problem solved!!
Needing more than one pump of shampoo and conditioner!
Fragrances that did not go well together within one hair care line.
Our products were designed as a nutrition plan for your hair using the best ingredients for all hair types so that everyone can benefit from using them, no matter who you are. 10 things to expect with Pregame Shampoo and Showoff Conditioner, or Power Couple, as we like to call it 😍:
Expect to have to wash your hair less.
Expect your style to hold longer.
Expect your hair to have volume while still feeling soft and looking silky.
Expect to use one pump of the shampoo and conditioner.
Expect a pump you can use with one hand, so no more picking up the bottle.
Expect to use equal amounts of shampoo and conditioner.
Expect to recognize the shampoo by the bling ring and the top and the conditioner by the bling ring at the bottom.
Expect a locking pump that’s perfect for travel. (Which fit perfectly in our ZipTYME bags)
Expect the same amazing fragrance throughout our entire line of products.
Expect less clutter in your shower.
Since the creation of the TYME Pregame Shampoo and Showoff Conditioner, a few more products have been added. Here is a rundown of each of the products… Pregame Shampoo is sulfate-free and uses fewer surfactants which is more gentle on your hair. Our approach to hydrating your hair is to keep the cuticle layer healthy, which locks in your hair’s moisture and keeps each strand strong. Over time the use of this protein-enriched shampoo can restore your hair and it will look and feel amazing! Showoff Conditioner allows your hair to have volume while still feeling soft and looking silky. Instead of developing multiple shampoos and conditioners that work to manage a particular hair problem, we have created our wet line to nurture the hair from within so there are no hair problems! Upstaged Thermal Protectant combines as many products into one as possible. Upstaged performs to give your hair grip, slip, volume, shine, hold, and thermal protection - all in one bottle! TYMELESS Repair and Shine Spray reduces frizz and leaves your hair looking and feeling silky, shiny, and healthy. It also helps combat humidity. We like to refer to TYMELESS as “liquid gold.” With one spray, you will be hooked! You can feel confident in spraying TYMELESS on your finished style, and it will not only not weigh down your style, but it will also make it look even better! For best results, brush through your hair after spraying. SelfieTYME Hairspray helps hold your style longer. We have added memory resins (Which are these super cool molecules that remember your hairs shape and style. Yes, that exists!) so you can brush your curls and know they will stay in place while leaving your hair soft and touchable. Remember, where hairspray dries is where your hair will stay. :) BigTYME Root Lift Powder, the newest addition to the TYME Hair Care Line, allows your hair to have more volume, grip, and texture. Expect to have to backcomb your hair less when spraying at the roots. BigTYME may be sprayed throughout hair for overall texture and to absorb oil between washes. It also works amazing for adding texture to braids. For more tips and hair tutorials, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest. How to Use the TYME Iron Left Handed
Okay. so, today, I’m doing left handed. It was very complex for me, and there’s a few learning experiences in it for me, but I found that there’s some people that just don’t have use of their right arm. So, I’m making a left-handed video. It’s way more complex for me, maybe for lefties, it’s not. In this video, I have a few experiences like the new beginners with the TYME iron. So, it’s kind of funny for me. I hope you learn a lot and we can’t wait to see what you create left handed. For the right side, pick the iron up with your left thumb behind the power button. Place the guidelines, (or Guide Side on the Pro version of the Iron), close to your scalp. Lean the tip of the iron forward and rotate the guidelines away from your head toward the mirror. Again, starting by placing your hair between the guidelines, left thumb behind the power light, rotate the guidelines (or curved side) toward mirror, making sure to lean the tip of the iron toward the mirror. This time, I used my right hand to hold the hair that is hanging behind the iron. This allows me to make sure the hair doesn’t drop down into the iron and fall off the heating plates. Switching to the lower left side, I move all of the top section of hair over to the other side. This is an easy way to section without sectioning. Watch how I switch my grip to curl the left side. I place my left thumb under the T in TYME, (or on the temperature lights for the TYME Pro version), and my left pointer finger behind the power light. Pay close attention to how the iron points back over my shoulder with the guide side close to your head. On the left side, always make sure you start by entering the section from the top and the curl up. This will create curl going away from your face on the left side. Rotate the guide side toward the mirror and glide, making sure to stay very close to your head as you glide forward. I also noticed that holding the iron with my three fingers on the button side and my pinky and thumb on the other side give me more control and rotation, hence the funny face when I realized I was doing that. Now that you’ve curled the lower section, you can part your hair how you want it for the final look. To curl towards your face on the left, you will switch your grip to have your thumb behind the power light. This time, keep your cord down and come in from under the section with the guidelines close to your scalp, and rotate from the back to the front. When you are further back on the head, make sure you keep the iron close to your head and the iron is more vertical. It’s really rotated, so I will end up with a more curly curl, but I leave the end out, so it will still have a beachy look. If you want a curly curl, just glide through to the ends. Finishing touches. The goal is to create volume without losing definition. So, I plump the hair and I also define curls. If you have any questions or comments, leave them below. Thanks for watching. Please Note: We will be recreating this video and the step-by-step instructions early 2019. Please be sure to sign up for our email, or to check back soon for the updated video and instructions! How to Eliminate Frizz & Static Once and for All
It’s that time of year when the air gets drier and some people start to deal with dry skin, chapped lips and frizz and static in their hair. We just want to start off by saying if you remember one word from this entire post - remember MOISTURE. One of the most important things you can do to help combat frizz and static is to maintain the proper moisture balance in your hair. It’s actually pretty amazing that, while discussing around the office that a big request for a blog post from our followers was tips and tricks to battle frizz and static, we realized that this is something that no one in our office deals with anymore since we came out with our product line. Here are the top 5 solutions we found for maintaining moisture to eliminate the static blues forever. 5 Ways to Maintain Moisture in Your Hair:
Start with the right foundational products. Maintaining proper moisture content in your hair starts with your foundational products, including your shampoo and conditioner. Pregame Shampoo works to keep the cuticle layer healthy which locks in moisture and keeps the hair strand strong. Over time the use of our shampoo will have your hair feeling hydrated, and it will look and feel amazing- with no static! 😉
Extend your time between shampoos to maintain your natural oil levels. (Check out our blog post 5 Tips for Oily Hair, for tips and tricks to balance your oil levels.)
Thermal protectant will also help maintain the moisture level in your hair by protecting your hair from heat tools. Limitless Universal Spray contains polymers with a very high charge density which allows it to function as an effective anti-static agent without stickiness, greasiness, or build-up problems. It also helps prevent flyaways!
TYMELESS Repair and Shine Spray helps control frizz and static with pro-vitamins which function as hair conditioning agents to provide long-lasting moisture to hair and prevents heat damage due to curling irons and blow dryers. In addition, Baobab Tein helps to protect hair and lock in moisture.
Ionic blow dryers, such as BlowTYME Hair Dryer, help reduce frizz and static by separating the water molecules instead of using pure heat to dry your hair. This will cut down the heat damage that can be done with traditional blow dryers.

How to Make Natural Curls to Smooth Wavy Curls with TYME Iron
One of our favorite perks about the TYME Iron is that you can use it on virtually any hair type! When curling with the TYME Iron on naturally curly or wavy hair, there are a few tips and tricks we want to share with you to make sure you achieve the results you want. Tip 1: Make sure to take vertical sections, and brush through each section before you curl. This will allow your natural curl pattern to stretch out and will allow your hair strand to travel smoothly through the iron. Tip 2: Hold your section flat like a piece of paper using your index and middle finger. This will ensure that your section stays flat, and doesn’t bunch or twist which could cause some unwanted bumps in your curl. Tip 3: When you first start curling, touch the guide side (or curved side) of the iron all the way to your scalp and close and rotate right away. This will get rid of any kinks from your natural curl pattern right at the scalp. Tip 4: Feel free to flip the iron around to the flat iron side to polish your ends if you are not wanting curl all the way to the bottom of your hair and want to achieve a beach wave style. For the basics of how to use the TYME Iron, head over to TYME Iron: A Quick Look at the Basics Part 2. We are dedicated to making sure you love your TYME products!
